Ok guys, Kinda off topic here. I am rebuilding a trans in my moms 91 f-250 diesel 4x4. I Built it with a shift correction package, sure cure kit an a pump kit, new solidnoid pack, new intermediate sprag, and a few more hard parts, and all new clutches an steels, an heavy duty torque converter. Got it together today and this is what it does... it seems to have first an second, BUT when it trys to shift to third it trys to lock up.. like it will damn near stop. WHAT THE HELL DID I DO WRONG??? lol The only thing I can think of is MAYBE I stuck the intermediate sprag in backwards???? What else can cause this??? I'm lost an I wanna have a good idea of what the hell I did before I pull it out.
I work in a trans shop i have never had this happen but could ask my boss and post his reply tomorrow if you want he has 40 years doing this and taught it at a school.
Check all your electrical connections especially the one on the left side of the trans. If any moisture gets into any of them--especially this one it will cause problems. Ford has a tsb out on the electrical connector on the left side of trans. may have convertor trying to lock up too soon
The only conector on the left side is the range selector, its fine... And the one on the right is for the solinoid pack and its new.
Can you put a sprag in backwards in a e4od? I stopped building years ago, not to sharp anymore. What about screwing up VB when doing improve kit?
YEP I tore into it today, sprap in backwards.... Kinda scorched the intermediate clutches an band...oh well another 20 bux an 3 hours thrown away...
