Hey guys, I'm going to be rebuilding the front end on my 57 in a few weeks and i figured this might be a good time to replace the torched spring that came with the car. i'm finding a bunch of 1 1/2" lowered springs at all the so cal suppliers, but only finding 2" springs at ecklers. is Eckler's the only game in town for 2" springs? thanks.
Not gonna be much help. I bought mine maybe 10 years ago from a club in Appopka, Fl. called Classic Chevy Int. They are now somewhere around Tittusville and new owners. Dropped out and lost touch. I only write to show someone made them. Also a place in California. Did you check Summit and Speedway?
Yeah, Classic Chevy is Eckler's. I know i can get them via mail, but i'm trying to find someone in so. cal if at all possible.
I had my springs custom made for my Galaxie for about $200 for the set by a place here in KS, pm me if you want the name, since you want a SoCal option I didn't want to spam your thread. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I ordered custom lowered and a touch stiffer springs from http://www.coilsprings.comCoil Spring Specialists Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
If you start with a Moog 8090 it is a little softer than your stock spring specs. Stock it should be a 1.7 drop. If you cut it then the stiffness increases to match the original Chevrolet spring spec but with either a 2.8 or 3.7 drop. The Moog replacement springs are taller than stock chevy specs. According to Moog the stock spring is tangent on both ends. When you pull yours if it is Tan-Tan trim the 8090 on the Square end, if it is Sq-Tan trim it on the Tangent end. Remember I am saying cut inches not coils
I have 1969 Camaro HP springs in the front of my 1956, they were free and happened to be the same diameter as the stockers, only 2" shorter! I want to see where things settle and how it drives before I whack a coil off them.
From Chevrolet 1957 springs; Free Ht 14.7 - 15.7. 1st Gen Camaro Heights from 15.1 to 16.35 Those were the factory specs, Moog varies a lot. Rock auto shows the 69RS Springs fit 55-57 Chevies. So I would measure what came out of my Tri-Five cause either Chevrolet or Moog is wrong. I am sure Moog knows how tall their springs are, but it looks like they just get close n matching factory. 1st Camaro springs were all set to be at 11.09 installed height, Measure thrice, buy once!
Interesting seeing the chart above. I'm kinda wondering now! Speedway motors offers these springs for "55-57" and "67-69 Camaro/Firebird". http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Eaton...ro-Firebird-Fr-Coil-Springs-327-Lb,40043.html Springs are 16.5 inches in length with a 327 lb spring rate...
Also interesting is this gentleman's post: http://www.chevytalk.org/fusionbb/showpost.php?post/2068319/ The Moog 6320 he references is 1" shorter than the "standard" 638 trifive coil and 2" shorter than the "heavy duty" 656 spring. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mog-6320/applications '69 Camaro and '69-'72 Nova
The Calif. connection might be Mike McGoughy (check spelling). I see him at Good Guys all the time but I haven't noticed his product line other than the 2" dropped splndles and 605 power steering boxes.
If you put all these springs under the same load; Notice the difference in Chevy specs, that 6320 is 1.2-1.4 taller than the factory height at the wheel, same load.
can you please clarify these two statements please? does tangent equal tapered? are you saying cut 1 inch in spring height or 1 inch of coiled length? and since we're on the subject, my car is a factory V8 car and it still has one. thanks. And thanks for al the info everyone. MUCH more than i was expecting!!!
Here is a pic, a square end would sit vertical on the floor. I am saying 1 inch in spring height. My pleasure
I have a pair of 2" dropped springs new, never installed somewhere around here. If I can find them, you can have em.
I installed the 2" springs in my 57 chevy about 8 years ago and did not notice much drop at all. Made a set of lowering clamps out of U bolts and that got the look I wanted. Mine came from the old"Classic chevy club".
