whats the hole for side of cowl an 30 Mod. A?

do you guys fill this hole? what was it for?

It's right THERE!

 

Cowl lights went there. Cut a round piece of 18 ga the same size as the hole, tack it in place, then finish welding up all around it and metal finish it.

It helps to drill a small hole in the center of the piece of 18 ga so it ends up looking like a fender washer, then you can put a small bolt and some nuts on it to use as a handle to hold in in place while you do the tacking. Then you remove the bolt and weld up that hole too.

When you are done this is what it looks like. (the second hole was for cowl steering the car had at one time)

I don't get why everyone removes them . . . I think they look good.

 

There's also a hole, possibly, at the end of the bead where the attachment rods fro the cowl band goes through-a couple of inches up from the bottom of the cowl.

 

I like them too, but that's a tall,thin car. Maybe it;'s the camera angle?

 

Just put a magnet behind the patch piece to hold in place when you tack.

When you see a hole, you are tempted to fill it.

 

...'Cause unless the rest of the car is festooned with every trinket Ford hung on it, cowl lights look like ***...

 

I thought the reason we bought old cars was because they look different. I like cowl lights.

 

I like cowl lights, too. OTOH, I 'm not crazy about non-functional, decorative louvers! I'm fine with one that are there for a reason. But,whatever floats your boat is ok by me.
