So there I was test fitting my driveshaft to see how much would have to be cut when I discovered that the D/S that I had was almost a perfect fit! So my question is, how far does the yoke have to be slid into the Trans. to be both safe and functional? All the way? Can it be slid out a couple of inches and still be OK? If so, I think the hot rod Gawds must be smilin' down on my *** tonight! Otherwise it'll be back to plan A. BTW, It's a TH350. Thanx....

usually it's ok if you put the yoke in all the way so it bottoms, and then pull it out LESS THAN two inches before the other end seats the ujoing in the rearend yoke. Do this with the car sitting down with the weight on the wheels or rear axle, NOT with the car supported by the frame and the rearend hanging down!

  5. yeah, me......1 to 2 inches will be fine , i usaully try for about 1-1/2"

i have had 2" with no problems

sometimes you luck out and find one that doesn't need cutting

My driveshaft guy says 1 inch.......

Push it in until it bottoms out.....then back 1 inch........is ideal. Other stuff may work but that the best ........if you have a used yoke........most of the time you can see where the seal ran.....in the original vehicle ( donor car ).

When building a shaft from scratch, start with the car on stands with the stands under the rear axle and frontend centerline so it's at ride height.Plug the yoke in and bury it all the way into the trans as deep as it will go.Take a c-c measurement at the trunions and burn 1" from that and that is the correct length.
If the shaft you have is close bury it in the ****** and if you have to pull it back more than 1.5" you better have a good tight tail housing bushing,LOL.
