I replaced the 216 in my 41 Chevy Sedan with a 235 and installed Fenton split exhaust manifolds. My shift lever hits the manifold. I heated up the lever and bent it up a bit to clear but I don't know yet how that is going to work. I don't have the vacuum hooked up to the vacuum ***ist and shifting without the engine running is an arm wresting match with an oil well worker. Has anyone else had this experience? I can't believe I'm the first and was wondering how others handled it? Thanks
You most likely have two options. 1. Install a floor mount shifter. 2. Tinker with yours till it works right. It sounds like your linkage might be binding. You'll want to make sure all the holes are nice and round and that the bushings are not deteriorated too bad then bend on the arms themselves some more.
The long tubes. Not the arms that mount to the trans or the ones that come out of the shifter box mounted to the column. Heim joints welded to the ends of your present set up might work as well.
