Jackman was the big brand name at one point.
    Mid 70's or earlier.
I'm positive no name clones were available in '77,
so they had to come out earlier than that.

One of the off roaders sold the first variety to hold up in the bush in the early 70s. Then there were copied by everybody. I had them on my new 74 Datsun P/U.

They got so cheap at flea markets that I'd buy the 15x7s and 15x8s to use the hoops to make wide wheels for early Fords.

  8. Finally, someone else who sees the "cents" in buying $29 wheels, brand new!;)

It's actually cheaper to buy them than junkyard steelies... least round here, for Mopars anyway.

Downside of the "wagon wheels" is that with their original purpose of truck wheels is that they're usually HEAVY....not good from a performance standpoint of unsprung and rotating weight. In my circle track race shop I sold a lot of somewhat similar looking race wheels but they were typically 19# for a 15 X 8". I bought some 15 X 10's once on a cheap deal only to find out they weighed over 30#!! I had the things for y-e-a-r-s.

  11. Long as they're going BACK on the market we won't haze you too much. ;) :p

I wanna come see you sometime soon. Stretch the RPU's legs a bit and deliver that canvas and frame we talked about a year ago.

Yes I said that as a complement. If I weren't a Poor Boy.I'd be a Cheap Bastard:D I have been known to re-use old motor oil,if my beater was a quart low. Let it 'settle' first, and just pour off the top. seeya Sparkxxx

SSSHHHHHHH! Don't tell everyone about us rednecks source for cheap wheels.. While chasing my vibration problem on the '52 a while back I got to checking the runout on my mid-seventies steel wheels, and it was awful. Went to the dealer I worked at in the '80s and bought a couple new steelies that I remembered were stashed away..runout just as bad. Bought a set of new white spokes, I think mine were $32 or something, no more wobble. So if you ever see my '52 nekkid, do be suprised, it's got white spokes...want me to go pop the caps off and take a picture? We could start a trend, you know... :D But only traditional white spokes, the ones with RED and BLUE pinstripes....

These rear rims were made from 2 15x7 white wagon wheels (10 bucks for the pair) and 2 F-1 centers. When I see these wheels I think of them as raw material for custom wheels although nice ones don't show up as much anymore.

the best version of those wheels was, chrome with a (actual) wood insert over the spokes. only the super-est custom vans, of course. it was the equivalent of a 22" spinner back in the day. let your freak flag fly!

I think American Racing still sells em. I have a couple of sets one on my Unibody and the other on my Dodge 3/4 ton. Good cheap and strong just like I like my whiskey and wimmen.

Brian-- do yours have that little groove/lip thing that full wheelcovers will grab hold of? I've had bad luck trying to keep wheel covers on a set of steel "Outlaws" (only 93.2% as redneck-ey as the spokes in question here). Getting tired of the "Florida look" smoothies I have now, and would need some decent wheels to snap my Olds hubcaps on.

Red and blue stripes! No joke! My Uncle raced Jeeps in the 70's, and EVERYBODY that was into that ran these wheels!

  20. I had a set of the all chrome ones on my avocado green '75 Granada...

I also made some custom headlight covers for it, AND it had a CB antenna sticking out of the center of the trunk, Jensen 6x9 Triax speakers, and the window tinting that turned purple two weeks after I put it on.

Did I say that out loud?

they were mid 70's IIRC... 74,5,6?

the reason you wouldnt see them much is cause they were only produced by Ford of Australia after Ford US stopped making the falcons here in the states... the AU Fords had some major balls from the factory too.

Haven't had any trouble with mine...I'm running '54 Cad caps right now (see Raven61's avatar for a pic :D ) and they are a bitch to get back off. I haven't tried my '57 Lincolns because I need to paint the edge red...it just doesn't look right white...
