Here is a musing for the experienced Hambers out there:

A baffling detail in this car I bought is the twin frenched antennas on the side of the cowl (there is no radio) and also the deep hand-formed grill which has underlying metal with fibergl***.

Reading 'Hot Rod Milestones' by Ken Gross and Robert Genat, I came across the story of Catallo's "Little Deuce Coupe" telling how the Alexander Brothers work always included their trademark twin frenched antennas and how they hand-formed that now famous grill shell for the Beach Boys Coupe. The shape of the grill shell and the antennas look eerily familiar...

Talking to the step-grandson of the original builder, I know that the body was of the same era as the Catallo coupe, but the chrome/tin inserts within the shell came a bit later. The step-grandson didn't know the history of the original body/grill shell, nor the heavily modified frame which includes a big z in the front.

My thought also was that if the twin frenched antennas were a well-known 'trademark' of the Alexander brothers, it would have been frowned upon to copy that and show up at a rod show. But, then again, maybe copy is exactly what somebody did.

Please take a look at the picture I've included and p*** me any thoughts you might have on the possibility of the Alexander Brothers' influence. I've heard one of the brothers is still alive - any ideas on how I could p*** a picture to him and ask if they did this work?

    Thanks in advance

Twin aerials were mega huge back then. A lot of guys copied what they saw in the little pages and those ideas took like wildfire. There are a lot of details on your car that are awesome. If it was an Alexander Bros car I would expect to see molding in of the taillights and tube/acrylic grillwork, something along those lines.

This car has popped up a couple times and I think it's freakin *****in as hell.

I'm doing dual antennas on my coupe too.

I just saw that you had responded on your other thread to my comment about your gas gauge. Sorry I didn't see that! It's been a busy 2 months getting mine on the road :)

Your car is seriously such a rad survivor. It seems like you value that which rules. I pretty much copied the upholstered wheelwells and cowl band from seeing your car.

Dreddybear, I just looked at the thread on your coupe and it's amazing. That car just looks fantastic. You're more than welcome to copy anything that makes sense for your car. Looks like a real winner...
Thanks again for the input, Troy
