I cleaned up the spark plug tubes for my 354 tonight and I discovered a small hole at the bottom of one of them.

Is it usable? Will I be throwing oil all over the place?

If the hole is under the plug seating area it may seal when the pug is tightened, if the hole is off to the side I would put some type of sealant on the hole to keep oil from entering the plug tube. Best option is to change the tube. David.

They were considered a replaceable service item when the car was new. Best to replace them if you can find new ones.

Tubes show up on EBay regularly. There's three lengths: 6 13/32, used on 51-3 331s, 6 1/8, used on 56-58 Chr, and all DeSoto. 5 29/32, used on 53-55 331 & all Dodges. So...I'd say any of them can be used on a 331, probably across the brands. Might make a differnce if you're using the OEM tube covers, don't know.

Measure yours and let me know. I have some used singles, in both steel and aluminum.

a hint, i noticed when i would start my car it would smoke, i thought it was my valve guides, but the i check the plugs and when i installed them i torqued them down a little more and the smoke was gone, oil had to be seaping down around the tub and spark plug treads.

...the ones that don't want to chase old Chrysler parts...
Too many shops only want the easy jobs where all of the parts come in one big box from the whse.

Agreed. Spend a few extra bucks and do it right. Thats even what TR Waters was saying without it sounding like a sales pitch. Listen to the man.

I believe that I have some that will not be used if you need a couple. Not sure of the length or material(Steel or Aluminum) but I believe that they are aluminum. If you need some let me know and I will go look.
