My model A project has been sitting out in the elements for a lot of years and has lots of rust. I am trying to get the center hood hinge pin out. It is hollow and some of the hinge loops are cracked. Any suggestions as to how to take the hollow pin out. I've used lots of penetrating oil, heat, and a big ol' hammer with no luck. HELP!!
You might bend each tab of the hood up a little bit. I would figure on wasting the hinge rod. Lube it up and twist it with pliers/vise grips.
...it took me a couple weeks of adding PB blaster, WD-40, and other stuff, and just stressing it a bit every day or so. Finally, I was able to get the hinge loose and then a few days later pounded the rod down enough to grip it and then twist it out. My ('29 Briggs Body) hood had been in the weather nearly twenty years. I would bend the cracked loops and force them loose from the rod so the rod will not get hung up on them when twisting it out. New stainless rods should be your replacement, imho.
put it in a drill and go forward and reverse on slow speed until it breaks loose then it should twist out
Spray WD-40 or PB Blaster and let it soak,,grab your variable speed drill and switch it to reverse and back it out,,done it many times. HRP
Thanks to all that replied! I got it out today using a 3/8 inch threaded rod to punch it thru and alot of PB Blaster, WD, and bigger hammer.
