Hey guys, I've been a member for a while (lurking mostly, some pm's) and thought it was about time I introduced myself. I'm in Gladwin, about 30 min. north of Midland.

I've got a rough 68 Cutl*** that I drove less than a mile 5 years ago and started to dis***emble, and soon found out it needed more work than I thought it did. So it's been sitting. My newest addition is a 36 International PU. It is a relatively rust free body that came back from Utah in the late sixties and has been sitting dis***embled in a barn near Detroit until last fall when the owner gave it to friend and me. I've got a 330 Desoto Firedome I planned on using but I'm thinking now I'll save it and use it in the A or T I want to build next. I'm now planning on using an Olds 350 and an auto (I know, I know) because I've got them lying around from the cutl***. I already ditched the fenders and plan on using an old Ford banjo in the rear and converting it to cowl steering. Of course I'm going to chop it a few inches and I might wind up kicking the rear end up a couple of inches, also at least no hood sides, maybe no hood at all.

I posted a couple of links to picks below as well as a fridge my friend and I painted up.

At the risk of looking like a fool, what does GMB stand for?

  4. Do you like long coats? :D Welcome from a former Michigander, I consider myself the Southernmost GMB.

    Hey man welcome.

I grew up in Mt. Pleasant (Mt. PEE!), but I escaped.

Now I only go to Michigan when I absolutely have to. :D

That's cool, I'm going to school at CMU and working at the tech center as a para pro in the auto program. I've driven to Flordia a couple of times and the only thing I remember about OH is that it is flat and smells a little funky. :D

Oh man I feel sorry for ya. :D

I was just up there for the weekend a couple weeks ago.

Ohio ain't bad. Ya prob'ly went down 75 and yeah, that's boring as hell. When I first moved to Ohio I lived in Athens. Nice and hilly. Great fer ridin' motorcycles (what I spent most of my free time doin' there).

That smell was followin' you from home...ya don't notice it when yer there all the time but when ya get somewhere that doesn't smell like that it becomes very apparent. Kinda like a lingerin' fart.

    Have fun here...

Your right I did go down 75.

Hey when you were in Mt. Pleasant did you take any auto cl***es at the tech center?

Oh yea, your right about the lingering fart but it did not start untill we stopped at the Ohio visitors center. Wasn't util Georga we lost it, or then the humidity overwhelmed it. One of the two.

No I didn't, but my uncle was one of the auto shop teachers at the high school. Isn't the tech center there? He's retired now anyway.

That's exactly why I didn't go further south. I hate humidity more than I hate winter (which btw, ours are nuttin' compared to up there).

Tom Olson, right. Did you ever see the cut down corvette from the World's Fair? You ought to see the shop now; we've got a ch***is dyno and we are working on dual turbo 454. Last run on the dyno it put down over 400 rwhp and over 600 foot pounds of torque before it grenaded the drive shaft and bent the radius arms. I’ve been building some new ones for the last week in my down time. The teacher thinks the trans will go next, I’m betting on the rear end. Did I mention it’s a stock 454 except induction? It’s pretty cool.

Anyhow I still don't know what GMB stands for.

That's him. Uncle Tom. I wanted to take his cl*** when I was in high school, but he'da been bustin' me for havin' bloodshot eyes every day.

Is he active again there? I haven't talked to him in a long time now. I knew that they beefed up the program, but didn't know to what extent. Sounds cool.

Thanks fer the update. It's funny who ya might run into on these boards.

Welcome from a Ca. transplant. Born in Alma and lived between Kenosha, Wi and Mt. Pleasant off and on before coming to Ca. My dad was the Physical PLant Director at CMU in the early 80's while I was in jr high. Wow what a trip down memory lane. Thanks.

No Tom has not been teaching here for, I think, around 10 years. But I see his name on a bunch of stuff around the shop. Occasionally we even get mail with his name on it.

It's cool talk with so many people from the area. Thanks for the welcomes guys.

  21. I've been up and down I75 and I've been to Cleveland... It smells like "I shouldn't have eaten THAT many deviled eggs" fart.

Michigan is more like a "kerosene on a wet dog" smell.

Florida is a "women's prison in August after fried fish night"

Well you cant very well put kerosene on a dry dog. They'll burn to fast, I mean sure you'll get a lot of heat but by two in the morning you'll have to get out of bed and throw another one on the fire.

Man, some people don't know anything.

Hey hotrodladycrusr let me now when and where, I'd like to come.

I've got a cheap'o set of dollies and hammers I can bring with me if needed.

I'm not a big drinker but I am 24 so I'll volenteer for parts/beer runs.

Any good places in the area to stay?

There's actually a good little motel in Royal Oak (yuppietown) that's still cheap. It's run by this little old lady, and she has to like you or she won't rent you a room. If you end up coming I'll give you the number.

Welcome from Hartland, I stop in Mt. Pleasant once in awhile to donate some money to the Indians at the casino.

4t64rd must be talking about the wonderful smells on the I75 bridge over Delray. Funny he says that, cuz I went on a road trip and on the way home I took a quick nap. I knew I was home before I even opened my eyes.
    Anyways...WELCOME TO THE H.A.M.B!
