I'm cleaning out an old building and I found several solid rubber truck tires. They look to be from a Republic truck. I've searched the interwebs for hours and can't find any information on old solid rubber truck tires. Are they worth anything or are they trash? Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Id imagine restorers are looking for them. toss them on ebay or noise it around an antique truck site. Don't toss them out for sure
Wall art at least. Don't toss them. Those things have more value than some of the thinks I'm hoard..... uh "saving".
Put a post on the web sites for the Horseless Carriage Club or the Antique Automobile Club. Like everything else, someone somewhere is looking for them
ebay them. I think "Republic" is probably the name of the tire manufacturer. List this as vintage solid rubber truck tires. You'll get the market price within a week.
You may be right. There was a truck manufacturer named Republic that used solid rubber tires so I ***umed the two were related but maybe not? Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Just a side note on those tires. The term "Kicking the tires" came from checking these to make sure the clinchers were on tight. I think that they are made of unuvtaium and are worth a lot of money.
Depends on the diameter of them, as to what they'll fit. But I did read an article about a brewery (I think) that had one of their original trucks restored from the teens, and the incredible cost of having the solid tires re-cast was one of the most expensive parts. My guess is that a set in good shape would be quite valuable. I personally would do a no-reserve auction on eBay and let them fly to the highest bidder.
A couple of years ago I found an old liberty truck ch***is with good solid tires about to be s****ped, I called my old museum and told them about it and they were on their way to get it before I hung up. They needed the tires, don't toss them folks are looking for stuff like that.
Lots of trucks used hard rubber tires, even some cars had them. They last a long time but are hard to replace, I didn't know you could even get them anymore. So, those tires should be worth a good chunk of change to someone restoring a truck who needs them. From the pics it looks like they may be white or gray rubber? This would make them even more rare, and probably very early (1920 or earlier).
We saw this Republic truck on our Western adventure to retrieve the REO Speedwagon cab described in my project thread. I sent you a PM with clues how to contact the owner. It looked like he was working toward driving this truck, so tires might come in handy. Treat him right on the price. They have got to be hard to find, but I'd venture that there aren't too many buyers searching for them.
Ad says prodium process, whatever that is. From a 1917 newspaper: http://news.google.com/newspapers?n...MIaAAAAIBAJ&sjid=YUkEAAAAIBAJ&pg=5948,1556496
Thanks for the info! From what I can tell, I think I have 4 rear tires and one front. I guess I'll try to get them on eBay in the next week or two.
