Most likely came from a donor car. My guess is it's been clipped with a second gen. F-body, probably a Trans-Am.

  2. You will be amazed what this will do for that old chrome, my knowledge is too use 000 steel wool or finer. this works great on chrome and glass.

  3. I agree. Give that old chrome a chance you will be much happier. There is nothing like original chrome. You can not duplicate it.

I always suggest that peopl find a car they like the look of and use that as a reference point for what they want to do. In the case of the buick sedanette Justin Hill's 1949 from Australia is phenomenal. I have seen it in person and it really is outstanding. As for a metal shaper in Orange County, Lee Kay is simply phenomenal - you might want to give him a call....

  7. Car is drop dead gorgeous! I'd update the engine, trans, brakes, suspension(drop it), interior and drive it. Body, leave her alone. It's your call, just sayin'.

That's a nice find there. I'd get her mechanically sound and drive it for a while. Make sure you go through the entire brake system, don't scrimp there. It looks great the way it is and would look good chopped as well. The cost to have that chopped right and the interior redone to suite is going to cost a good chunk. I only do what I can handle myself. Good luck and keep us posted. Ken

Very nice. Rather than update, maybe just a refurbishment of the brakes, steering and suspension. Get it running and drive it as is. It looks great to me as is. 000 or 0000 steel wool and chrome polish will work wonders on the brite work.

After thinking about it for weeks, that's pretty much what I'm going to do, get it running and drive it for a bit and figure out what I think.

And my plan right now is not to chop but put in an ls1 bored out to a 427, corvettte trans, ford rear end, lower and bag it, new brakes and interior, convert to 12v, put a/c in power windows, new stereo (hidden) use the existing dash - it's too classic to change.

    lol,

well my son is a tech and has an ls1 sitting in the garage and has a corvette trans he's reconditioning that he picked up for cheap, so that cut's my costs... he can do the rewiring, a/c etc pretty economically

but ya... bagging and interior is going to cost some benjamins

Ahhh, you are the one who bought my dream car!! I talked to the gal after it was sold (new house purchase prevented me from snatching it up sooner) and she was so bummed at the thought of it being chopped up and ripped apart. She said her dad took a lot of pride in keeping everything original on it. But it is your car now and you should do what makes you happy. Sam Barris’s 1950 Buick is the vision I have for mine as well. I just LOVE the stance on that thing!
Congrats on your new beast and please keep us posted! I’m excited to see what you do with her.

Ya, the car is in great shape and hard to pass up.

That was my original intent and she was a little startled and had quite an attachment to the car. She gave me all the pics, as this car has been in 2-3 movies. It had the best feature in "Inventing the Abbots"

Her dad did take good care of it though. (however as you can see, it's not original paint or color, missing some trim as well as the door/window garnishes and sills - however apart from those minor things, pretty much all there)

I'll post as I do things to it.... for now, I'm going to drive it as it is for a while and see what I like and what I want to change.

Well this car hasn't run since '96.

When it arrived, we got it running within 15 minutes.

A little filing of the points, some gas in the tank and a few squirts of carb cleaner in the carb and voila!

you can hear it puring on this video

  27. I would lower it,but I wouldn't chop it. That's a pretty nice car. Drive it around for a while and enjoy it.
