So, I've put a ford 302 in my shoebox. Those of you who have swapped out your flattie, where'd you put the battery? I'm just trying to get some placement opinions. Thanks in advance.

    here's my shoe

That's what I'm afraid of... I just don't want to do that for some reason.

Well that kinda cuts back on the best choice. Whats wrong with the trunk?
Dont put it under the car whatever you do.. lower it and you have a hell of a time getting to it.
The only other option is in the cabin. I wouldnt want caustic fumes in there with me though.
Me?? I'd find some heavy welding cable and run it in a nice enclosed box in the trunk.

Nothing really... I just prefer it to be with the engine for some reason.

i dont like loosing trunk space to a battery or fuel tank.

I have notched the inner fender well and made a box to put the battery in there. gives you a nice clean engine bay and keeps your trunk clear. battery goes in from the wheel well. kind of a pain to change the battery but how offen do you do that. if it ever dies or needs a charge you can just conect to the starter soleinoid.

most cars there is plenty of room to hide every thing.

Slag, I had been debating that, I've pretty much taken away any usability of the venting on the drivers side so I may just put it in there.

I would try for the passenger side due to the weight of the battery. you will always be in the drivers seat but 80% of the time no one is in the passenger seat. most batterys weigh 70 - 90 pounds and that to your weight and think how unbalanced the car is.

We have a 51 vicky someone put a sbc in in the late 50's. There's what we think is the stock battery tray bolted to the firewall. Works ok.

As for putting the battery in the trunk, the preferred place has always been on the passenger side, a poor mans posi.

Notice how most cars with the tire in the trunk, if it's not in the middle it's usually offset to the passnger side.

Please don't cut you inner fender pannel, you loose your vent on the passenger side and looks like @%*&. Someone who owned my 49' put it in the fender pannel and it's been a pain to replace it. I put mine in the trunk on the pass. side laying down under the trunk opening out of the way.

the box isn't there anymore, and I really wasn't even sure where that actually was, the guy that had it before me wiped the firewall clean. I hadn't been paying any attention as to where they were mounted in pictures I've looked at of shoeboxes. Now all of a sudden I'm ready for a battery and I've gotta put it somewhere.

Stock location was on the drivers side side panel, tward the front near the radiator I think. You might have room to put it back in the stock location. With the 283 in ours, the generator is right where the battery would be.

Check out epay for original cars, you can usually find pictures of under the hood of a stocker.
