i have read thru a few articles on here and other places and one thing i find common is .. to use most of the adpators with a stock pressure plate you have too cut off the counter heights of it . or change too a differant P.P Why ? i have a offenhauser adaptor and im glad i didnt pay full shot for it but it needs too be modified .. Does any one out there make a direct bolt up adaptor ?
If you have the right stuff (flywheel, clutch, pressure plate) you shouldn't need to modify anything with the offy adapter. I'd use a diaphragm pressure plate, much smoother, no chatter issues.
well first off i had too machine it so the bendix drive cover would even go in .. and well the right stuff ? im useing the stock preasure plate with a Gm disc .. and a stock flywheel .. the question i asked was there any kit or adaptor out there that anyone has used with out modifying .. alot of articles on here is vague upon that technical advice ..
There are a couple issues at play here. First - there are a wide variety of parts in play - different flywheels, clutches, and pressure plates - not to mention the ridiculous variations in the T5. Second - to expect a bolt-together anything on something that's 70+ years old is optimistic, at best...especially when you factor in the variation of parts. Lastly - Offy has never been known for the finest in finish machine work. They do a reasonable job, but every once in a while, stuff isn't quite what it needs to be - I don't know if this is a QC issue at the casting company, the machining company, or what. It just pays to be aware. However, in this particular instance, this is a documented issue with the offy adapter....so, you probably should've anticipated it.
well first of all im working on a few 49 to 54 canadian motors one is a 296 ci bored and stroked unit .. the others are mild over stock as they will be daily drivers .. flat ernie i realize that yes the year spread and so on but these parts are suuposed too be engineered too work . and have very vague instructions . is alot of the problem and yes poor machine work i have notices where this one adaptor is almost .100 out in the placement on the throw out fork pivot .. fenders no i havent read that issue as im tired of reading articles that dont have all the facts and are writen by guys whom cant tell the differance between a 32 to 34 ford tuck cabs .. LOL seems all of them are 32`s .. lol
Well, a few more specific comments then, shall we? All of the commercially available adapters are intended to adapt a GM transmission to the flathead. That's all well and good except the S10 input shaft is different to all other GM transmissions. That's why there's issues there. Next, there are multiple styles of pressure plates available from stock, so engineering an adapter to work with all possible combinations can be tricky. The flyweights of the long style pressure plate hitting the Offy adapter is a very well known and documented issue. Not much grinding needs to be done, usually, to get it all to clear right.
Are you trying to do a WC t5? or one from a s10 type? I just made an adapter from a s10 to WC using an offy adapter meant for a s10
