How to repair slight damage to 6-71 blower case..

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Chopshop13, Jun 13, 2013.

  1. So i recently aquired a 6-71 blower which has had slight machining on its case. I dont think itll self destruct any time soon, this is asthetics.
So to repair, weld or epoxy putty. If i weld will it ruin the case tollerance wise, will it be possible to then re-machine it? for apearance would have to polish then? ideas? Epoxy products that look like cast alloy? ideas/?

  3. I'd say it certainly depends on where along the case you'll be welding and how much.
    Pics are a good idea

  4. Of course!

It takes special tooling to machine a blower case that most machine shops do not have. The case is also anodized and will have to be stripped before welding. You will lose the heat treat after welding and you will have to re-machine it after heat treat and spend money for custom made oversize rotors. Cheaper in the long run to just re-case it, maybe can get some credit for the old case. Otherwise some J-B and some paint.

Leave it and come up with a great fishing tale to explain why it was cut. ;)

Why not just media blast it to make it all look the same, no shiney, machined metal spots? Butch/56sedandelivery.

Its been stated, but do not weld that.

Welding will distort pretty much anything by some degree.
