Remember, load ratings are for sustained load at the speed they are rated at

    A 98S is around 1660 pounds at a sustained 112 MPH.

I do think anyone building a Car owes it to themselves to get at least the F/R Weight if not the Corner Weights, most any Race shop, and Truck stops can do this.

Then you know the weights, and can make a better judgement.

I have 185 65R 15's on the front of the 40. I have a manual rack on a Mustang 2 and did a 800 mile trip in it with no ill effects.

My buddy is running 195X75X15 on his '50 Chevy H/T there nice and narrow, I'm will be running the same size on my '52 Chevy Fleetline. The tires are made by Coker a very good radial tire. There a little taller tire that's all, don't get 70's there too wide.

Just me, but I'm thinking that the 195/75-15 is just a bit tall for your stance. That's kinda why I suggested going to a 65 series. A 70 series would be a hinch too tall as well to my eye.

If you are dead set on 195/75s, you might check into Firestone's FR560 series. I know they have several sizes in the series that are considered "obsolete" or "Boutique" sizes these days.

Ken........ I run 165/80R 15s on the front of my O/T 80 chevelle wagon. 6 inch wide rims. They work just fine on the interstate [drove it from southern Oregon to Omaha last april] and drives fine in city traffic. Car weighs 3500 lbs.

Here is the load rating @ sustained 106 MPH.

    PSI 165R15
    35 1170
    32 1123
    29 1075
    26 1017

The Maximum Front Axle Load on a 54 Chevy was 1100 pounds, per wheel, 2200 total.

1050 with 600 pounds of p***engers on Front, without weighing you can kinda estimate you are close to this.

Unless you plan on high speed (>106) cruising you should be "safe" within load range and speed.

As far as grip, style, suitability for purpose, that's your call, you should be safe from a blowout.

I broke down and ordered a set of 195/75/15 today after going down and looking at both 165/15 and 205/75/15. Since the side wall on a bias is firmer there is less deflection on the side wall then a radial. I decided the 165 would be to short (the 1/2" difference in height woulda be greater as there would be more rubber bulging. The 205 was just to wide for my taste, the 1" height would not be much but slightly greater i height than my 6.00s. The 195/75 are a half inch taller on paper but should look the same under load. The 195 where almost double the cost of the others but will give me the look.

I used 124 X 15" Pirellis on 4" wide Centerlines on the front of my big-block F100, only reason I changed was 'cos the law changed and they were deemed 'unsuitable'

now running 195 X 14" on 7" Centerlines - wanted to stay on 15" but couldn't get any 7" X 15" ones here in NZ.
