I'm trying to decide on stock manifolds or a block hugger style header for my 392. The car is a '32 5W and everything on it is from the 60's, so I'd like to use something from that era. I don't think they had the block hugger style back then. I do have a nice set of stock cast iron ones that are center dump. Any suggestions?

I've been wondering about the same thing. I like the looks of the stock center dump cast iron headers better than the block hugger - more nostalgia. But am wondering about the "flow" of the cast iron can be improved by Jet Hot coating.

manifolds, or make your own set of headers.

    next question? :)

  4. Headers...or at least 1 7/8" block huggers with at 3" collector. More if the engine is heavily souped. Let her B R E A T H E !!!

THose Hemi exh ports flow real well, no use chokin the **** outta them with log manifolds unless you have packaging issues or the mill is relatively mild in mods.

I went with manifolds on my 392 because I didn't like the look of any of the block hugger headers and I wanted the exhaust to stay between the frame rails.

Depends, do you want to make Horsepower or do you want to look "Correct" (whatever that is)

Sorry to bring this back .. but thanks guys. I am putting a clone chevy 283 power pack dual quad motor in a 32 ford sedan and have been struggling and struggling with block huggers versus 2-1/2" manifolds. I am going with manifolds !

    Let her breath......go with headers

  11. These headers are by Hedman, and they were around in the 60's.

  12. Someone is repoping the centre dump truck manifolds with the 3" outlet and that's what I would run unless I was to build a set of headers that would work - 34-36" long 1 5/8-1 3/4" primaries (depending on power output) into a 2 1/2 - 3" collector.

Shorty headers are terrible for performance in my estimation - super short primaries and very turbulent short collectors - manifolds would be better.

Headers - build them yourself. Plenty of info here on the HAMB on how to...
