History Video: Amazing footage of the 1911 Indianapolis 500

I was surprised to learn this much film of the inaugural 1911 Indianapolis 500 even existed. And it's incredible -- like old war footage or something. Guns, horses, mayhem, violence. Makes you realize how long ago 1911 was, a world apart.... actually, it defies description. All I can say is watch it.

I have a copy on 8mm. Picked it up on eBay for less than $10.

Threaded it up on the old Eumig 8mm projector. My 10 year old son Dad where's the sound?

Great look into the past just wish there was sound

Gee, Bill, i open your link to see the 1911 Indy and it takes me to a glitzy website with a modern exotic racecar. Whys' that?

man that was something!!! could only imagine what the hell it would have been like.kill or be killed situation. be the first no matter the cost!!! what a way to live back then.and we got to see it.well 7.58 min. worth of it anyway!!lol

...and hard to tell which is which. It's a very different scene than the still photos seem to paint.
