    Ask C9. He's probably got the best installation of a '31 roadster on a '32 ch***is.

    1 do you allready have a ch***is?
2 if not do you plan to use a stock 32 ch***is?

there are several choices to go with when it comes to building an a-v8.

if you are using a stock 32 frame you will need to recontour the frame to fit the body better at the firewall and the rear quarters.

if you don't have a frame allready you have a few choices in companies that build frames for an a-v8

Well..stock 32 ch***is around here are pricey and far'n few.
was gonna use some american stamping rails
This is all just in my head right now.
Do I pinch the rails 2" ahead of the firewall?
I have seen a few done and son kinda sit flat on the ch***is,while others have a small gap.

Hey, when you're here.... HANDS OFF my rails!

Seriously, I have my own ideas on how I plan to do the same thing. It involves a mini-channel and re-contouring the lower cowl to sweep up to the frame, hopefully so subtle that it is not noticeable and does not look swoopy. Also, I want to try to play with crossmember widths so as not to pinch the frame at all. We'll see.

I dont mess with the basic contours of the Frame.
Except at the front X member, I pinch it a little to make the Rails sit a little closer to the Grilleshell.
And you need to bob the rear of the Frame unless you want to use a Deuce Tank, and that it a lot of work...
One thing that '30/31 A's on Deuce Rails need ( IMO ), is drop the Radiator & Grilleshell 3/4 to 1" to make the top of it line up better with the top of the Cowl.
( you can order a 1" shorter Rad, or drop the X member down which will do the same thing, but also raise the front by the same amount ).
Loudpedal found a nicer way of doing that, I think I read he raised ( de-sectioned? )the body a bit.
That will make it line up nice too, give more interior space, and make the Chop look more dramatic.
    All with one Mod...Why didn't I think of that...:D

I dont think he posted in a lot of detail about it ( or if he did I missed it ), but what I guess he did is using Rust Repair panels to extend the lower edge of the Bodywork.

But we should really ask the guy himself...
    I'm just guessing...:)

Check out Rolf's post: Report from the garage 31 on 32 rails. He covers all this and it is nicely done.

just another one to look for here on the HAMB,,, the bossman Ryan is in the midst of an A coupe on deuce rails as well...

in my mind, its the only set of rails you don't wanna channel a car over, otherwise whats the point of having deuce rails

    check the link above.

FYI, what you are looking for is a "pinched" deuce ch***is.

Solves some headaches (creates others!) but a slight channel with some work to the rear sub-rails and you can use a stock deuce frame.

Here's a pic that may help. The purple drawing is the model a frame. The black is the 32. I centered the drawings off of the front axle.

    thanks for the tip.
I guess I really didn't think the originator of the thread would need the info so late in the game. But others might. I felt if I could find this thread, others surely could and may be able to use the info.

We do a 3/4" pinch at the cowl and at the front spreader bar and 3/8" pinch everywhere else. We also drop the cowl 3/8" to remove the need for a wedge....They end up looking like this.

hey Jeff - where is that A body now????

Nice work on the frame below Mr. Drummer, that is ***S

  21. Well, looks like it has gained steam! Usually dragging up old threads just muddies things. I stand corrected.

I'm glad this was brought back up, I am in the process of mounting a 30 coupe body on some american stamping rails and I am planning on going with full rails in the rear (where the tank would mount) I may just run a louvered panel instead of the tank, but I really don't want to bob the rear horns off. I think I will use a hardwood stringer to take up the gap. I will try and post some pictures of my project tonight or tomorrow

Search for Rolf's '30 coupe build, his procedures are very well do***ented.

  24. Very nice work! Glad I managed to purchase some boxing plates from you boys! I just wish I could weld as well as you do.

Pinch frame rails 3/4" at fire wall area. Throw away firewall. Set motor back 25%. Cut off rear frame horns, however; leave approximately 2" of frame rail extending p*** body for rear bumper/push bar which may be used for lead. Throw away sub rails and cut out trunk pan. Fire up the shrinker/stretcher for nice new sub rails following contour of deuce frame. Channel body ONLY 1" over deuce rails. Jeff, doesn't this sound like the "Triple Nickel" car?

As you know Jeff, a deuce body does not have a flat floor as a model 'A frame is board straight/flat.....

Jeem, Norwell? You guys building A coupes as well? Jeem , I had a similar fancy about the cowl to frame issue. Channel the body down about an inch (depth of the lower feature line) then sweep the cowl up to align the bottom at the frame top. It would accent the reveal on the duece frame, yes? I second or third the comments about Rolf's coupe build up- I saw that car in person and it looks awesome.
