Nevermind the tire but what does everyone think about this wheel , the wheel is originally from a 80's ford ranger,

Not feeling it. The width and diameter of the majority of the original artillery wheels were 16x4 or taller/narrower. That, and the square cutouts in this rally wheel make it an obvious imposter.

Same reason I'm not real fond of most of the new artillery wheels being made, too short and squat to get the right look.

Well, I think they look really good.........................................on a Ford Ranger Pick Up Truck! But then again, I'm still waiting for the "white painted wheels" to come back in style, like in the old Junior Stocker style. Butch/56sedandelivery.

I, personally, think they look way to heavy for any hotrod. But:
    1. I don't pay attention to anyone else's advice on my car,so you shouldn't pay attention to me.
    2. They must run a ton of them because the originals are sky high and clearly they're being repo'd to meet demand.

  17. [IMG]DJANGO has those wheels on his 36 5window and I think it looks just fine. Obviously most others here havent objected to them on his coupe as every time a photo of it is posted, the crowd usually goes wild. Check out the car on any of the 36 Ford or Hunnert Car Pile-up threads and reconsider. Mitch.

If you didnt mention that they were off a Ranger dudes would have been telling you how cool they are. Sometimes when the HAMB bandwagon gets a rollin, they all jump on for the ride!

  19. Not sure how many hot rods have run the original wheels but the 36 Dodge did have a cool looking wheel that looks very much like the MT wheels. HRP

interesting, when did they run "MILK TRUCK" wheels on hot rods? i knew some guys building rodent rods that wanted the TALL narrow tires and these became the thing. just like around here manure spreader wheels from the '50s some had 5 on 5 or more like 5 on 5 1/2 bolt pattern. artillary, milk truck, and manure spreader, all kind of the same

As far as i know, desert wheels or high clearance wheels were used on dry lakes cars, mainly in the rear so that the racers could take advantage of the extra gearing they provided as well as the used 18" Indy tires that were available and affordable. So they do have some historical significance. I don't know that they were used on street cars much or at all, but the roots of hot rods, hop ups, gow jobs, etc. were in racing of one form or another. Most early race cars served double duty as street cars as well.
None of that has anything to do with those ugly ass ranger wheels, but the last post about how high clearance wheels were a modern trend is not true.
The artillery wheels on hot rods seem to mainly be a modern trend though.

Its a neat trick, that would have fooled a bunch of people if ya hadn't posted it.
Thats what Hot Rodding is about, being original. If ya like it, run it, better lookin than artillery wheels by a long shot.

That said, Artillery wheels and Milk truck wheels are UGLY,(throw a capital F in) in.
I've junked a crapload of them, until I learned they were desireable.
Haven't found a set since, and I'm fine with that.

  26. If I'm not mistaken I believe the original Mullins trailers came equipped with 17" Artillery wheels. HRP

It's not an artillary. And it wont look good on any old ride, but if it means you'll be able to get on the road then by all means use it.

  29. Guys take a look back at my last post. I pasted a pic of Chads coupe with the Ranger wheels with early Ford caps. Those "yucky" wheels REALLY don't look that terrible when you put a bit of effort into the final product. Believe me, all the times I have seen Chads coupe, I have NEVER heard anyone bad mouth his wheel choice. NEVER. Mitch.
