After looking through a number of posts it appears I can relate to a lot of your projects and issues. Although I'm not your typical hot rodder, I do a lot of fabrication and I think my 65 Mustang coupe conversion into a fastback (2+2) racecar qualifies as hot rodding! It uses almost no stock parts at all. In sourcing parts for my other modified fastback project -- a real 2+2 -- I find myself sourcing hot rod sites for their parts. I run yet another car in our local region's equivalent to SCCA Road Racing (called ICSCC). Fabrication is a way of life to race car owners! I own other Hi-Po Mustang fastbacks that are left dead stock and have paint daubs, but don't hold that against me!
Welcome! There is a lot here to take in. Just a word of caution though - Mustangs are not discussed on this forum.
Hey Bossbill, like Carbs & Chrome says, pony cars are definitely NOT the preferred vehicle type. It's '65 and earlier traditional rods and customs, but Mustangs are not included. (Don't feel bad about it - I've got a 66 and a 68 Mustang convertible myself, so it's not like I don't get where you're comin' from). If you lead with your chin by proclaiming your love for Mustangs, you will get flamed bad. If you like old time hot rods, customs and lots of opinions, plus a good laugh now and again, you've come to the right place. Anyway, welcome aboard and enjoy yourself. Cheers.
I figured since I shaved the roof drip rails, reconfigured the dash, and did other things pony purist hated it might be ok to hang out here. But I understand hot rods. Most of the best parts and ideas I've gotten for my modifications come from the hot rod hobby, not the pony car hobby. My truly interesting stuff is reserved for race car fabrication. Although you can argue with the base car, by the time you look inside and check out the build, we might have more in common with hot rods than with anything else. Cheers!
