I've had great luck with Patrick's in the past but when I ordered their new short water pump for my 235 swap for a buddies 51 sedan I found out the stock 216 lower radiator hose would not work because of a larger outlet on the waterpump. So I thought I'd just call up Patrick's and they would give me a PN of a molded lower radiator hose. Instead they told me to measure what size outlets I have and get a length and order a flex hose from the parts store. I've always hated flex hoses. They seem like a bandaid and an accident just waiting to happen. Since my old hose had the right shape I took it to my local O'Reilly's parts store where they let me wander in the back to compare it to what they had. I found 4 options. The best fit was a Gates PN 21442. I trimmed it up and it fits great. I did a search last week on here and saw some others were having the same issue so I thought I would put up what I found to work for me. I would think this would work in most 49-54 Chevy cars when using Patricks short waterpump with the larger outlet. I think I measured 1 7/8" on the waterpump outlet and 1 1/2" on the radiator outlet. I'll put some pics up. The hose was $19.99 by the way.
Jim Carter sells a hose specifically for this purpose. Maybe it's the same one you bought. Part #ME239 $22.00 A formed black hose made special for placing a later model 235 or 261 six cylinder engine in a 1947-1953 Chevrolet. It expands where it connects to this later model larger water pump connection. Sold each. Made in USA.
I read about his hose but wasn't sure if it would fit my application. Plus shipping... And I like solving problems on my own now and again. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Looks like it came on 80's and 90's Chevy P30 and 3500 vans with 454's in them. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
