Hi Just got myself a 1948 ford coupe and i want to put a air ride system in it. Are there anywhere i can buy a bolt on kit or do i have to fabricate everything? And is there anyone here who have done this? i've been searching the forum but could'nt find anything Thanks
That sounds like a great idea for your project and I am sure someone makes something for that application-but I doubt you will get much support for it here...
Two things: why is this the first post in almost every thread? And what makes you say that in the first place? There are plenty of guys on this forum who have air ride and will be willing to point this guy in the right direction. Some of you guys need to get off your high horses, I realize this is a traditional board, but grow a pair, grow up, or gtfo if you have nothing productive to say. Sorry for the rant but this **** gets old (this coming from a new guy). To the OP, I wish you luck in your endeavor, I'm sure more guys who know better than me will be along to guide you. Meantime, why don't you post some pics of that '48?
Calm down dude. Used to be you would get lit on fire for asking this question here. Now it's "everyone gets a trophy" "or "it's your car do what you want". Lame. To the original poster. Your car rules with it's stock suspension. Drop axle and some shackles in the back is so right on that car. Please consider it. But if you're determined to air it out there's a couple options but I'll throw what I think the most popular or straightforward one out there. Front: -Mustang 2 IFS setup for bags 4.5" BP rotors & hubs Rear: -8" from a Maverick or Granada with 4.5" bolt pattern or narrower early 9". The key is to get a rear that can fit under the car. -4 link with a panhard bar -Brackets for bags -Kit to convert trans to open drive -driveshaft Bags: either an "all in one" kit (I would use accuair) or if you want simple & cheap just to go up/down -4 Firestone or Slam Specialties bags -1 Viair compressor -pressure switch -1 3 to 5 gallon tank with at least 3 ports. -30 feet DOT 1/4" airline -3 push in lock type 1/4" T fittings (5 if you want air gauges, probably good idea) -2 air gauges (if you want) -2 manual paddle valves -3/8" to 1/4" fittings for the bags and tank I drew you a little diagram of how to hook it up:
A buddy of mine has built an air ride system for straight axle Fords, has one in his '36 Woody. If you're serious, shoot me a pm and I'll get you his contact info. It's a very slick set up. Brian
We (Gambino Kustoms) have a taildragger kit for your car. Here is a pic of a chevy frame but yours would look similar with a different notch. in this pic there is no rear shock mounts but they are included in the kit. this is also a fatman mll that we sell for the front which is also made specifically for your car. my phone is always on for tech support while building your car. you can even give me a ring if you have any questions @ (209) 814 1431 or PM me. thanks! jonny
I've seen this setup, and it is very slick. He really needs to market it, it would sell. other than that, refer to dreadybear's post.
to the OP.. a little more background on the existing car would have been good.. otherwise.. a bolt in front crossmember is available for your car.. as for the rear... some fabrication will be required good luck..show us pics of your new machine?
He wanted to, but I think the #'s daunted him a little. It's a VERY slick deal, complete bolt in, locator bars replace the spring, the bags are nearly hidden, especially under a fat fender car, and the tanks he built can be hidden in the frame rails. He's a genius. Brian
Thanks, you guys are awsome Well, to be honest, im looking for a kit so i can lay down the *** when i like to, dont need air suspension in the front Been looking into the "AirOverLeaf" kit, but i dunno.... The car already have the ford 9" rearend, but original front (atleast i think so).
