Hi All, Tried to post up a minute a go, but messed it all up (old farts & computers). Way back in 1963 or so, I fell in love with Bob Tindle's "Orange Crate" after reading about it in, I think, Hot rod magazine (don't have the mag any more either and the Monogram kit of it also). After 50 odd years, this car has remained in my memory as my all time favourite. It was Oldsmobile powered and had a front mount Povtin supercharger on it. Does anyone know what happened to it or if it is in a collection somewhere? Funny how these things pop back in your head after so long!
Hi everyone, Thanks so much for posting the photo and whereabouts; even today, it is a beautifully crafted venicle. Regards to all.
I remember building the model kit when I was a teen , I liked it so much . It was a unique car then and still is . T
It's owned by a friend and fellow Estranged CC member here in the NW. He is a member here on the HAMB. Without speaking for him, I will just say that it is being brought back to running condition and I assume that he will letting it be seen out and about when it's completed. It is an amazingly cool car, seeing it in person is a trip.
That's one of a few cars that can lay claim to sparking the sickness in kids and adults the world over. A rare combination of form and function.
Rodder's Journal has a complete history with their usual beautiful photography in #38. http://www.roddersjournal.com/index.php?main_page=page&id=19 It was first built as a hot rod in 1950 and passed around to various owners, all in the same area and in the same car club, for years before Tindle got it and built the version that gained fame as a show car, race car, magazine feature and model. The detailing of the chassis was exceptional for the time.
