What rear crossmember are you guys using on your 32 frame? Stock, model a ,or homemade? I'm builing a highboy model A on a 32 frame with a buggy spring banjo. I'm trying to decide what to use.
Use a model A rear cross member and a buggy spring.....I have a 40 spring and rear in my A....I want a deuce ch***is.......I need to at least have the model A spring and crossmember re-installed to clear my new Spadaro QC center section.
there is no benefit in running a model A rear spring unless you need it to clear a quick-change or you want to mount it on top of the axle. if you use one with the after market hangers that hang off the back of the housing all your going to do is lose trunk space. unless your building a modified, then for sure i'd use a "A" crossmember and spring. use a "flat' spring. you dont wanna open your trunk and have a big hump in the floor...for NO reason at all.
I have a model A coupe on deuce rails. I'm running a model A cross member. Even though I don't have a quick change I would like to run a quick change in the future. I may just run a banjo. Banjos are pretty, I think it should be visible. Hence the model a cross member. The loss of trunk space is a disadvantage. This is a hot rod. It's all about style and looks. If I was thinking practically I would have started building an '05 Honda.
I've got a set of well thrashed original 32 rails that I have set aside for a future Model A project. I also have a good 41 banjo, a Model A spring, and a Model A crossmember. So that is what I am going to use. The Mike Bishop/Vern Tardel book has a drawing and a photograph that shows the dementions and how to do it.
Jamie, I was going to make a flat crossmember on mine and use a 40 front spring so I could have the trunk. I have seen a fiew like that and like it. Remember the flamed 32 roadster at the drages it was like that.
