I found a funky looking set of finned drums on ebay. They look like they started as '59-64 Finned front drums. They look NOS. HOWEVER, the fins are highly modified, and it doesn't look like a hot rodder did it. The backing-side portion of the fins is all shaved down, and the remaining body of the fins on the side of the drums doesn't look as tall as regular fins. The seller listed two Part Numbers: One on the box, one on the drums themselves. If anyone has a Buick parts book, can you ID these part numbers for me? Box: 1185640 Drums: 1185632 I posted this on the Buick Club of America's website, too. Here's the ebay link if anyone would like to take a look at them. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NOS-...10076QQitemZ4579824468QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW I know they don't like ebay links posted, but I'm linking it ONLY so people can get a look at them and see these unique looking drums. I have no interest in promoting their sale. Strictly a knowlege seeking adventure! Thanks, -Brad
I think the fins were cut down. The body of the fin along the side of the drum looks like the same size. Neither one looks nos to me. Here's a guess, somone tried to adapt them to a ford, but didn't know wtf they were doing, so they cut down the outside ridge instead of the inside ridge, which you can still see sticking up. I wouldn't use them if you gave them to me, never mind that price!
Yeah, I think he did forget how to count. I have seen NOS drums advertised before, without the hub on them. I can't see in the photo clearly enough to see if there are marks on the face of the drum where the rivets were removed to get it off the hub. I thought about the possibility that someone cut them down on a lathe, but where the metal is removed is scalloped and rounded--if someone was going to hack it on a lathe, wouldn't that be a square cut? -Brad
Whoever did that to those poor defenceless drums should be SHOT! But what I gather from my own experience with these drums, Most people with Older Buicks share the same problem in not being able to put 14" rims on them. These drums will just not allow you to fit anythng less than a 15. Even then it's tight. So what apears here is someone decided to ruin a set of drums so they could fit smalle "mags" or rims on the car. TSK STK!!! NAILHEAD
