Does anyone have pictures or experience with converting a column shifted Jetaway (dual coupling 1962 Cadillac transmission) to a floor shift? I know it is similar to a hydramatic with a different shift pattern.

Any pictures or suggestions, (except using a modern trans) will be appreciated. Attached are a couple pics of the trans. It is being rebuilt next week by a tech who was around when it was new.

I'm aware these are costly to rebuild and problematic at times, but I feel it is the right thing for my build.

    Thank in advance, Wes.

Certain Oldsmobile and Pontiac full size in those years had console floor shifters used with both Hydra-Matic types, so you can use one of those with your own cover if you can find one. These also have a relay lever which bolts to floor pan and two linkage pieces which you must have to use this shifter. There are aftermarket shifters such as Hurst His & Hers but very scarce.

  3. That transmission -IS- a Hydramatic, a dual coupling type with PND3SLR shift pattern.

Any floor shifter with enough throw to engage all gear positions will work, and I suspect you can even get around that by altering pivot points under the car to your rod or arm that connects to the transmission.

It's not hard to find early Riviera or Gran Prix floor shifters - which were for different trans, but may work just as well.

Thanks, the tech article on the base fab was very informative. I may fab a small top frame to fit between the floorpan and trans. None of the mounts are in yet so this would happen prior. I think what had me confused, is there are two arms on the trans side. I think one may be a brake/ park lock. Another thing is that this is a column shift car originally a manual.
