I know, it's not a HAMB video, but I thought I would post it anyway, just in case someone might want to see it. NE has been waiting since 1966 for a NHRA National event. The video is from Friday's qualifying day. New England must have been craving an NHRA National event. By mid afternoon there was barely a seat to be had. I even saw guys with signs trying to buy tickets for Sat. and Sun. The teams didn't let anyone down. http://youtu.be/Unttp1kJQgg
Thanks for posting, I didn't go, saving my money for HRR in September, already sent in my entry. One of the other websites remarked this morning that NED may eclipse some other stops on the NHRA tour for attendance so you may be correct, people ready for major event here. IF so, then the September HRR should be terrific as we'll get a lot of Canadian cars we don't see around here, along with New England and down the Eastern Seaboard since you can go major highways all the way to the track.
one other note, supposedly Force's crew guy who checks out new tracks, on his hands and knees I understand, had good report of NED surface condition, saying it was one of the better venues they had been too.
interesting comment on track crowd today, Saturday, at the event: Sea of Humanity – Yesterday marked what was possibly the largest single day crowd in the long history of New England Dragway. The crazy thing is that advanced ticket sales for today’s action are DOUBLE than they were for yesterday’s. This is both an incredible win for the track and a bit of a concern for officials as the place was about to burst at the seams yesterday and today’s crowd promises to dwarf yesterday’s Race officials were working yesterday on plans of handling the m*** of general admission spectators because reserved seating is 100% sold out for today. There are few (if any) tracks on the Mello Yello tour that can claim that sort of situation. Even Sunday looks like it will produce a bumper crop of spectators. Clearly there was m***ive pent up demand.
Watching the coverage on ESPN last night was amazing. Their announcers couldn't stop talking about the crowd. They said Rte.101 was backed up from 8 in the morning until 2 in the afternoon. I know they're going to improve traffic flow for next year. It will probably take a few years to get it real smooth. Even one top fuel driver commented he didn't think he would make it in time for the first round. I personally know one of the top officers of NE dragway's board and he said, a few weeks ago, that they had over a million dollars in advanced ticket sales. I'm going to the Hot Rod Reunion. Hell, I drove my 33 Coupe (with 373 gears) all the way to Columbus, Ohio one year to attend. Now only 40 minutes away!! Yehaaaaa! It's raining here in Wells, Maine this morning, I hope it stops for the finals.
Spiker, I'm with you. **** and I took his deuce to Columbus one year and the wife and I drove solo to St Paul one year in our coupe. Damn nice to have a big meet right in our back yard. Just look at what came out for the Orange Reunion, will be nothing compared to what we may see at HRR. Hearing from guys from all over NE that are getting old hot rods/drag car stuff out of the overhead or the barn, to bring. For those NE guys who don't know, you have to go to the NHRA Museum website and download entry forms for show/shine or swapmeet. Your entry package comes from CA, not from NED.
Nice job on the video. I was there Thursday, Friday and Saturday. So many people on Friday that we had to park a mile away at Star Speedway. Saturday attendance was even higher! Track was really fast too and I can't wait for the Hot Rod Reunion in the fall. Thanks for posting the video.
I had my dvr all set to record saturday nights show per the comcast progran guide !! When I went to watch it this morning and show was about some football player. I hate comcast !! At lest I am watching the finals now. The old pictures of NED , the drivers and history is great that they are showing. Just can't wait for the HRR in September.
Same thing happened to me on my cable system. They moved it to regular ESPN without warning. Fortunatly my son recorded the last hour of the program.
KMAN somehow records all of the TV broadcast, puts it up without commercials and it stays up there His page is: http://www.youtube.com/user/KMan2100
I watched the whole Sunday finals on my Iphone. We had a lightning storm that knocked out our cable for the night. Then I realized I could watch it on ESPN Live, on my Iphone. Check your cable to see if you have ESPN On Demand, or Primetime TV on demand. That's probably your only shot. I just saw the post about Youtube and Kman. Try that.
