Just as you leave Alaska on the Alcan Highway you will come to the small
town of Beaver Creek, Yukon. (pop 300 or so)
Stop at the tourism building. Sid Vandermeer runs it and is an old car nut and hot rodder. He has some neat stuff. Usually his '53 Caddy hardtop is in the parking lot. If he is not there get the staff to direct you to his house.
    It is a museum.....

    pg409,
If he leaves Tok and goes to Dawson City via Chicken, he will not p*** through Beaver Creek YT. The turn off to Chicken is at Tetlin Jct., north of Port ALCAN and Beaver Creek. But I will be sure to visit Sid when I next p*** through that area! John

I envy your trip. As a pilot for a cargo airline I get through anchorage often and have rented cars and drove all over the place. I should have moved to alaska years ago as I love the whole life style there. I have also flown a light plane there from the lower 48. You're off on a great adventure.

    Maggie has pretty feet.
I used to work in Alaska (Aleutian Islands) and miss it very much.
You will love the country up there.

Mosquitoes in Alaska are only here to sort out the real men from the tourists. To see who really wants to be here or whine and leave....

NOAA, And even your own UAF AG extension service, are saying that this is one of the worst years in history for South Central Mosquito populations.

  18. Thanks! Better than the temp barn doors I had on it. The real issue has been fighting the weeds. With all the wet weather we have had it is hard to keep up on the mowing and weed spraying. I lost a foot of driveway on each side to some invasive little ******* within a week.

Have a good trip Bob. You will p*** 60 miles south of me on the way to Portland. A couple could spend a whole day between The Dalles and Portland stopping and looking at the sights. Or you can blast through in an hour an a half.

Before we left the motel Muggs had to prove her physical abilities are now fully restored by riding the rabbit, reminds me of the cartoon, "get on the rabbit now, I don't have time to explain".

I of course am too old and fat to get up there so this will have to do.

Next stop was the Obligatory Mitchell stop, the worlds only corn palace, actually it's quite impressive.

We stopped at the Badlands Natl park and hooked up with Short Bull in Interior at his home, haven't seen him in about 7 years. I can't locate those pics right now but will find them and post later.

Another obligatory stop in SD is of course WALL DRUG, didn't get any Ice water but could not p*** up the ice cream.

Ran into my old girl friend, she hasn't aged as well as I have. She has been chipped at alot I guess.

One of my favorite National Parks is the Devils tower so we could not p*** up the chance to have a close encounter of the somekind.

If you look real close about 2/3 rds of the way up to the left of that green stripe there is a black hole that looks like it might be a cave. Well it is and there are 2 climbers in it. Muggs has some pics she got with her zoom but I can't find them now. Will post them later, it's really amazing the detail that cannon has, nice camera. For me it's a point and shoot all the way, easier to carrier, I'm just a Church copy cat I guess. (sorry Coby).

Pizza and Beer with the Tman and a little bit of his straw house, yep, he built it himself out of bales of straw covered with stucco. it's really cool and of course the shop is attached.

    The Tman his ownself !!!!!!

Nice shot of the interior walls.

Now to the important part, the shop and the 6 cly B'ville project and the model a that is being neglected.

OOPS the model a didn't load, oh well, we all know what one of those look like anwyay.

Tomorrow Rushmore, Custer park, Crazy Horse/

Looks like a blast!! My dad was stationed in Alaska for years and when he drove home to Illinois with his late dad as a co-pilot, he said that was the best trip of his life. Beautiful scenery and great memories. I'm sure your trip will be just as enjoyable!!!

  29. I really need to finish the house (doing it as we speak) and clean that damn shop! Hard to do both at the same time! DOH!
