I am ready to apply for a tag in Mississippi for my 1935 International. Inspection by Highway Patrol is completed, Tax Commision must issue a VIN and install it on vehicle, but they need a ***le bond first. State Farm's ***le company wants bill of sale or invoices on all parts. Since I have had some of these parts 25 years, that is impossible. I have all the notarized forms for the tax commision, Highway Patrol, and a bill of sale for the cab, grill, hood. Any ideas? Anyone had similar problems in your state?
In my case ,the only receipt I had to furnish the DMV was for the engine, which had part of the donor car VIN stamped in the block. Once that was verified ,I had to get two appraisals from a licensed car dealer written on their company letterhead. Both dealers were familiar with the process and said they had to state their opinion as to the cars $$ value . Neither of them asked me for invoices,receipts,etc..I took the two appraisals to a bonding company and they issued a 3 year bond based on 1 1/2 times the highest appraisal amount, no questions asked..I then had to turn the bond over to DMV . They never questioned the amount of the bond or appraisals..That completed all my paperwork requirements ,and they came out and installed the ***igned VIN sticker to my car... When I applied for a tag ,the state (NC ) then charged me 3% of the bond amount as a Highway Use Tax... Seems to me thats all the state is after anyhow.!! The only time build costs, receipts, invoices, came into the process was when I got insurance and that was to establish an agreed value...
