I took my '52 Chevy pickup to a shop about 8 years ago and left it for a "builder" to put a clip on the front so I could lower it. He was supposed to put a Camaro clip on for me. After a couple months of getting the runaround he abandoned ship and lost his shop.... long story short I picked up my truck and parts and found this. NOT a Camaro clip. Does anybody know what this is and will it work on a '52 Chevy truck? Is it too wide? Or should I just cut it off and start over? Thanks

  2. My guess is A body. Early 70s Chevelle et.

  3. Good guess, I would say about the same.

The impact absorber flanges on the horns is the clue here.

Do you have the front end parts?

I was at a shop a couple months ago, they ordered a front clip that is made to fix when people screwup installing subframes. The rails are longer and are attatched under the cab. It must happen pretty often, for them to keep it in regular production.

It's 73 or later with the impact bumper mounts that the others pointed out.

Since it has the original engine mount frame pads on it someone may be able to ID them and get closer but I'm thinking that parts pretty well interchange on 73/77 Chevelle size cars and 73/80 Firebirds and Camaros but some of them have bigger sway bars and higher density bushings in the A arms.

  6. Need better pics, but I would start over. That clip looks like he simply welded it to the stock frame rails, leaving it look like two frame rails welded together.

The last time I did this type, I spread the stock rails out to match the subframe, boxed those rails to well under the cab, then cut the 4 corners of the sub, peeled it back like a banana, then rolled the rails back and welded along each one. This gave a lot of weldment and a lot of strength, as I was able to weld inside and out on much of the whole. I also made sure the sub was cut as far back as possible, so I had a lot of materiel. And I actually used a '78 'A' body frame section, which works out a treat for late 40's to mid - 50's GM cars and trucks. Once done, it does not look like two frames simply stacked and welded.

Just my thoughts, worth what you paid,

  7. Tend to agree with you Cosmo. The parts to put this together would cost much more the a complete sub-frame.

I was thinking about buying a IFS kit that welds onto the frame but there are so many options out there. I will probably end up cutting this off and going with a Porterbuilt or something.

Does a 1980 Camaro clip have the exact dimensions that I would need on my '52 Chevy truck?
