I have been casually looking for a different front bumper for my 39 Plymouth build. I really liked the looks of the Dodge & Desoto bumpers with the peak in the center of the bumper. I saw one on a 39 Plymouth and really liked how it fit the front end.

Its a little different, but I picked this bumper up, this weekend. The guy I bought it from, said he bought it with a shell of a 1929 Reo coupe. I've scoured pictures of Reos and it does look like some 33/34 Reo Flying Cloud bumpers. But not exactly. The Reo cars don't have the bolts at the end of the bumper like this one. The brace shape & ?single center? mount looks the same.

I've run across some Reo Speedwagon truck pics with bumpers that look like this one with the bolts at the ends. The trucks (some firetrucks) look a lot bigger, and I wonder if the truck bumpers wouldn't be wider. This bumper measures 64", very similar to my Plymouth coupe.

After digging through the Speedwagon pics, I looked at some 37+ Diamond T trucks with similar bumpers.

Any ideas? I'm still learning about this age of cars, sorry if its a super common bumper. There aren't a whole bunch of pics for Reos or Daimond T stuff out there.

    Thanks
    Chad

looks like it could be a '36+ Diamond T bumper and I NEED one! :D

Here are some pics we took at the ATHS show in Yakima a couple weeks ago.

There is one Diamond T pic with a close up of the grill that shows the way they mounted - are there mounting holes by those bends on the mounting bracket?

EDIT to add: now that I look closer, I don't think it's a DT bumper - the bracket like that would interfere with the huge rounded part of the fenders. It would certainly WORK for a DT I bet though with some bracket mods :)

Those are great pics, the face bar is most like your pic #DSCN3254, but mine has a center bolt that I don't see on that pic. There is a reflection that looks like my oblong center bolt, but it looks like its at a 45, not vertical maybe?

I'll have to go to my storage unit to look at the bumper brace for the mounting bolt holes. I don't remember any in the brace, except the center and end bolts that mount the brace to the face. I'll look tomorrow and post back up.

    Thanks
    Chad

That truck is a 40's truck, not sure what year specifically. But, also may or may not be an original bumper on that too........

I finally got back down to my storage unit to look at the bumper. It does not have holes for the mounting brackets like in your picture. I can't really figure how the bumper was bolted to the car. There are only 3 holes in the bumper brace, they all attach the brace to the bumper. One on each end, and a center hole. The only hole that could be easily accessed for mounting is the center bolt. I can't believe the bumper could be mounted with one bolt, but there are no other holes in the brace.

Sorry no pics, its kind of buried in the trunk of my car with 100 other parts.

It looks so close to the picture I noted above. I wonder if the mounting holes were welded closed in my brace or something. I didn't see any sign they were ever there, though. That bumper doesn't look stock to that truck (the wheels might not be stock either, hard to tell), its too short across the front. Most the other trucks don't have all that fender hanging out past the ends of the bumper.

ya, probably not a DT bumper - maybe it had brackets clamped to the brace that held it to the truck/car it came from.....

    That thought crossed my mind.

Thanks for the pics, good luck finding a bumper.
