Finished up a little custom bike for the youngest grandson. He wanted to put it in a car show so last week we put one of my cars, his bike and the boys old pedal car in a show we had inside a local mall.
Here's a couple pics of one I'm building for my son, he's only 4mos so still got a little bit before he can stroll it....the anticipation is driving me nuts! Its taken Me 4 months to build it and not completely finished, almost though. The car sits on the ground but it has air ride and comes up 4inches. I put in front and rear lighting, custom interior has been made but not put in yet, it works off a 4 channel remote control. I used a chrome roadster steering column that I turn the from wheels with from the rear. The paint is orange crush Pearl that looks beautiful in the sun, nice gold hues to it. I'll post more pics in a week or so when its finished! Sent from my DROID device using the TJJ mobile app
Heres the finished stroller. It came out very nice. My son loves it! Sent from my DROID device using the TJJ mobile app
finished! i don't know anybody that's young or small enough to use this thing but my dog ruby seems to like it...
Brought my Mustang JR to a car show this weekend after upgrading the lighting to much brighter LEDs and adding a remote control to run the lights and horn.
Here's one I stretched for my neighbor and replaced the hood area that had holes in it I even embossed some flames on it
Has anyone motorized a pedal car with the transaxle out of a handicapped trike? It looks like the electric motor, transmission/differential are all one unit, and would be easy to mount.
I used one of them for a 1961 Thunderbird JR for a little while. But the Thunderbird is much wider than a pedal car. The unit I used could not be narrowed enough to fit a pedal car very easily (die-cast case is too wide)
Sounds cool! What brands should I be looking for? Is the car still around? I'm wondering how wide that axle is, because it MIGHT be just right for my third scale '32! Sent using the NEW Droid HAMB app from atop my toilet.
Yes my 1961 is still in my garage. the body is painted. The frame is restored I am still working on the electric drive-train using a wheelchair motor and variable speed drive, something original Thunderbird Juniors did not have. They were all or nothing. Call your local nursing homes and ask for the maintenance director and tell them you would like to buy a scooter or wheelchair that is too far gone to use anymore (often this means ripped fabric so it can not be cleaned but fully operational) also check with the companies that sell and service electric wheelchairs in your area. They might not have one availble at the time but ask them to keep your number in case one becomes available
No particular brand.....just take a tape measure with you. They come in all shapes and sizes. Some come as more of a complete unit....which would make the installation way easier.
I'm wanting to build a gasser out of my Murray flat face. What are you guys using for rear slicks? I'm thinking around 7 1/2", but can't seem to find any. Thanks, Mike
Took the grandson out for a spin in the pedal car I built for his mom when she was little. Needs some body work and new paint.
Damn! That's nice, would love to see the tricks you could do with one of my Thunderbird Junior bodies.
I've been building this one for my godson this week with his pop. Here it's mocked up with tagboard. Tomorrow we'll start banging on metal! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
stumbled across this link looking for pedal car bodies. want to build a cool christmas present for my youngest. heres a shot of there wheels now.
Here is my pedal car that I motorized for my daughter. I did this about 6 years ago. I had a couple trash find electric scooters and started hacking and welding. One wheel drive with free wheel type sprocket. That came from the two wheel scooter. No reverse but it coasts or pushes easily. Theoretically it goes 11 mph with the gearing/rpm's/tire circumference. With a full charge my girl could leave a black mark on the blacktop. It will carry my 200 lbs around and is a blast. I used the handlebar to simplify controls and the side markers are hooked up as brake lights and turn signals.
