Some good news and some bad to wash down with your morning coffee.

Good news is I was able to get out there for a few hrs yesterday and make/fit a patch for the inner frame. I still need to cut a 3.5" & 2.875" hole in it to match the other side but I think I might just use a plasma so I don't have to run around finding those sizes. The patch fits really good and I just have to wait until monday to get some welding gas to buzz it in. I also blasted and primed some parts like the pitman arm, yoke cap so those just need some paint and they'll be ready.

I might actually have a shot at completing the frame by next weekend which means I have to get ready for paint. Old ScootermcRAD is gonna let me borrow his rotisserie to paint the frame so that'll help a ton.

BAD news, my friend Chris who was going to loan me the engine to run at ROG told me last night that he needs to sell the engine with a project car. That does create a little bit of a conundrum but I might just try and find a cheap running flathead that smokes and shit to throw in there. One things for sure, building an engine right now is not in the cards so I'll just keep plugging away as if I had and H&H prepped engine sitting on a stand. :D:D:D

  4. Nice rotisserie Scooter has there! Oughta come in very handy!

Bummer on the flathead, though! But between the ILs and the RPs, somebody must have a spare sitting somewhere!

  5. That rotisserie is bad ass! Elegantly simple.

Yeah scooter did a bang up job building that thing. Best part about it and reason he built it like that was it breaks down to take up nearly no space unlike a regular old rotisserie.

Separate note, I think I need to make a tow bar for my '35 to pull it. ;)

  7. (Since Chris or DRuss aren't here right now I'll take the lead on this one)
What are you going to pull the '35 with! !Rimshot!

The Blue Drab color looks awesome, it would look good in a dull gloss, as if it had been aged.

Awesome project, hope to see some paint pics soon of the chassis.

Also just came across this, finally something worthwhile on the H.A.M.B. How much time do you have left?

Thanks buddy! Yeah I think it's going to work out pretty good and I'm right there with ya on the dull gloss. I think when coupled with Off white wheels eventually (they are black this go around) and and a maroon engine it's really going to come together nicely.

Oh plenty! It's July 1st today so 3 months give or take a week. :D:D:D:D

Perhaps for a few days but today we (ScooterMcRad and I) kicked some major ass on the car!!! The frame is completely fixed and back to "square one" as it left Henry Ford's plant with the exception of re-riveting the trans saddle in. The frame is patched out back and and the welds were completely finished to make it appear as if we were never there. Looks really good....and stock!

Making a template for what I cut out....

Cut a piece out of 1/8". Then later cut the holes out like the original with a plasma....

ScooterMcRad fusing the new patch in with the blue buzz box.

Here's a quick shot in the midst of blending the two pieces of steel I'll get a better tomorrow. Really there is like now signs of a repair which is cool...

We also repaired a spot on the front of the X member where a previous owner torched it off for exhaust clearance so that's back to "square one" as well.

These things may seem like small steps but necessary for me to proceed because if I'm not going to do it right I'd rather not at all ya dig?

So now that we got the frame back to square one and there are no cracks, rust or even bacon like frame rails where it's wavy we can really start to cook with gasoline. Plans are to have the model a rear crossmember completely spliced in and finished by the end of next week. I might even order the rivets monday and see if we can't get those in as well. That'll leave me to raise a little funds to get the frame powder coated which should happen by end of July??? I really need to square away my rear end/drive shaft situation. I have a few questions there that I need to ask.

I've been trying to round up a running flathead to use and I have a few leads on that so that's promising. That's one major thing that'll hold this whole long shot up!

I also got my rear shackles in and the old ones out of the rear radius rods (which I started polishing the ends like a crazy person would).....

.... so once I make 1/8" spacers to make up for the difference in the 2" rear spring those will be ready. Really Once I get that rear crossmember in I can put the rear end under the car, alter the rear radius rods if they are too long and cut the torquetube down. Then throw the front suspension under the car and see how it sits!!! Whoa!

Still a few more days before I get wheels back from my friend Jerm who was nice enough to paint them at work. He's got them epoxied primed right now and it looks like my body work on all the pits (these steelies were rough!!!) is looking pretty damn good. They'll be shiny black....unless I can get some maroon paint in the next few days.

Can't wait until we get to a point where we can take another stab and chopping this car. Definitely going to be a highlight!

Lastly I leave you tonight with a cool shot I found in a '52 HRM issue of the Hartelt '34 coupe at speed. I wanna do this!!!

Thanks for the interest. Sorry I don't work as fast as Andy Thunderbirdesq. :D:D:D

  24. Progress is better than no progress.

Keep plugging away at it, it's looking mighty fine.

  25. I trust Scoot-e-pants keeps that fire lit and keeps you smoking forward, because good friends are hard to find, embrace it and make it special...
Similarly, like the re-vamped chop goal post, certainly a goodthing to aim for, just make it count.

    Cheers, and keep at it,

    Drewfus:)

  26. JJ, If you'd like, I could run a rim stripe on the wheels while I'm down in 2 weeks! Just let me know what color.....my treat!
