Just gonna throw it out there and see if any one has a quick answer or trick for me. My dad and I replaced the module, cap, and coil on his Corvette. That's all we did and now the car is running like chit, has no power. It was running well before. I'm sure it could be any number of things. Any one have any experience with this or a quick answer? A little O/T I know, but I'm sure that some one has some words of wisdom will help me. Thanks

did the coil have the same color wires (white or yellow)?

did you put in the ground strap in the cap?

did you get the firing order right? really? really?

did you accidently break a plug wire at the cap end?

did you install the ****on, spring, and seal in the cap?

did you plug the module in properly, so the connector terminals are seated in the correct place? sometimes the spade gets wedged between the plastic and the terminal, instead of inside the terminal

    is it the correct module?

The most obvious thing is mixing up the firing order.

Then check the initial advance, and vacuum advance.

We double checked everything, checked vacuum etc. We made sure the plug wires were reinstalled properly(they were new a few weeks ago). We did all of that "obvious" stuff. We may have to just keep fooling with it. Thanks guys.

did the coil come with new screws? some do, and you have to use the right ones, the others are to long and end up cracking the cap and causing problem like you speak of

    And just let me add

did you put in the ground strap in the cap?

did you install the ****on, spring, and seal in the cap?

These are the two most overlooked in my experience, especially the ground strap. Just double check it all. If it was fine before, it's probably something stupid now.

Not to say you are stupid............

I'm gonna shut up now. let me rephrase, something easy. I would just double check it all, and double check the timing, an esay fix and an easy thing to get wrong.

I believe that it is some thing stupid(some times we all are stupid. That's what is so great about this board). More than likely some thing easy or overlooked. I'll have to fool with it in the morning. I'm going to go over every thing again. I'll keep you guys posted, may have some more questions, may have an answer. Thanks for the responses so far.

Yeah, I know, if it ain't broke don't fix it. The cap had some metal deposited between the terminals(arcing) needed to be replaced, so we did every thing. Nice move huh?

Do not ***ume NEW parts are good. Swap back old cap and see if it gets better (new cap could be cracked - never know) - Did you use a FACTORY module ???? Some aftermarket ones are **** not worth spit. Connectors loose??? Did you use the proper heat sink "grease" between the module and the distributor body???? What about the rotor??? Again - if you bought cheap parts - throw them away and put GOOD stuff in.

    What's the SPARK look like???

take a tip from GM and make a "test plug" to check the spark...just take a normal plug and cut off the side ground electrode, if it will fire that out in the open air then it should have enough umph to fire a normal plug in the engine under compression.

Of course the old stuff is long gone. So that's not an option. I'm sort of ***uming that the new stuff is the wrong stuff. It is carbureted. We're basically going to go out there and start from scratch and triple check every thing(I will be applying the info that I've gleaned here). Checking the spark is a good idea. Process of elimination. Thanks.

check the wires going into the clip where the module plugs into... you might have broke one when swapping the modules.

So.... any way, we fixed it. I knew it would some thing simple. The #7 spark plug wire came off. To our credit the clip inside the boot was loose and it just fell off. We gave it a little crimp and re timed it. Runs like a champ. Thanks for all of the responses. I learned some thing today. This board is great.
