Alright guys, I'm looking for BUSHINGS, at this point I do not care what they are made of, but I need a specific size. The STOCK shock mount on the front of the 55 through 59 Chevy pickups is also the sway bar base. The bushing band is specific in size and a generic band cannot be used in it's place.

The bushing I need for the stock swaybar to work is: 13/16" I.D x 1 3/8" O.D. I tis ROUND, not the "D" shape, and it needs to be somewhere around 2" long...anything within 1/4" length difference either way will work fine.

ALSO, I will MAKE these bushings from scrap if necessary. So anyone with a lead on a 2" x 2" x 2" or larger block of polyurethane, bushing rubber or polygraphite please let me know.

    Thanks guys

You just described a skateboard wheel. And yes, they work as bushings, body mounts, engine mounts etc. very nicely.

I'll have to look into skateboard wheels...never thought of that.

Mike, I have found that like you posted, and can you believe that the measurements I need aren't there? I've spent hours on this...

All I really want at this point is raw material to make my own.

    Buzznut,
I have some high silicone poly that was used to line shovel buckets at a coal mine. I've made bushings for shocks and sway bars from this material. If you want to try some send me a PM with your address and I will send a piece to you. I believe what I have will work.

I think I have a used set of those bushings on a parts suburban....

(the suburbans and panels came with sway bars, trucks did not)

  10. Delrin plastic....it can be machined and comes in rods, that's what I used.

That looks like an end-link kit. I'm looking for the swaybar bushings for the stock swaybar. Earl sent me some raw stock of poly, so I'm going to borrow a buddies lathe and try that.

I've just been looking for the sway bar & end link bushings myself, and found these in Red or Black Urethane ...

    http://www.prothanesuspensionparts.com/

I found ones to fit my application under 'Universal' parts ... as well as seeing they have 1 lbs. cans of different densities of the Liquid Urethane for making replacement engine mounts ...

You may find one that fits, or could modify, or you could form your own bushing from scratch using the Liquid Urethane ...

Old thread, but I used to run a casting/ fiberglass shop for a cement casting company. We used liquid rtv, poly, and silly cone for our cement molds. I used to buy everything from polytek. I have used the stuff to make bushings, spring isolaters and and whatever else I need at the time. In a pinch you can get some of the stuff at tap plastics, it a little more pricey than ordering from the company but you can get in smaller amounts. Just make sure you use LOTS of mold release and make sure you really think out your mold so you can get all of the air out and so you can remove the part when you are done. After you make your mold, use sand to measure your displacement so you don't mix too much of the expensive rubber. We used to weigh every piece so we knew exactly how much each part used.
