I've noticed a lot of people joining and posting all kinds of cars & trucks that are not Hamb friendly.

I sent a guy a PM explaining the rule and he said there is no pre '65 rule.

I read the rules again and it's not there anymore,,what happened? HRP

The HAMB is dedicated to spreading the gospel of traditional hot rods and kustoms to hoodlums world wide. That’s right – TRADITIONAL. And we aren’t talking Beach Boys and poodle skirts here fellas. If you are into a-side 50’s pop, lawn chairs, ruler contests, and all things that make hot rodding warm and cozy then you might want to find another message board. If you aren’t sure what we mean by “traditional”, then you might think twice as well. If you’ve come here to set a rep, talk some ****, and make some fun then you had better turn around right now. We aren't patient.

Even if you have come here for all the right reasons, don’t expect posting to be easy. We don’t cater to new fellas unless they show a dedication to spreading this tradition of ours first. We welcome young, old, foreign and all – but our original members and our staff expect a certain level of respect and an effort to keep things true and on topic.

Maybe you are an old fart with a past. Maybe you are one of the guys that started this tradition we cherrish. We built this place for you and your posts mean the world to us. Hop on and introduce yourself. This is your board.

Still reading? Then you must be cut out for this, right? We recommend you read some more. Check out all the forums, develop an understanding for how things work around here, learn the “do’s” and “do not’s”… The key to a happy HAMB newbie is to understand the joint BEFORE you begin posting. You want to be happy don’t ya newbie?

We have very few written rules here on the HAMB and that’s the way we like it, but we won’t hesitate to dump disruptive posters, ego freaks, or **** talkers. We are all here to learn and teach - please keep your other perogatives on the sidelines.

    Rules:
    1. No profanity in subject lines
    2. No political/religious/racial posts
    3. No ****.
    4. All personal information listed on this board is private and protected. The HAMB does not sell this information and you are not privy to use it for your own reasons. Test us on this one and we will bite.
    5. New Users must fill out thier profiles. Every bit that you can. Simply click on "User Cp" above and get to work.
    6. New users must introduce themselves in the intro forum.

It is also my perception that many new people come here just to try and sell their **** without looking at the rules.

I did a "sarcastic" post today saying from now on the engines in the vehicles must be older than 65,no more this and that....Didn't go over well and was instantly deleted....Bad humor on my part I suppose.
From my point of view, which may be wrong, the pre 1965 vehicle rule is enforced unevenly.I do know with the volume here's it's not possible to see everything. A new guy looks around and there's pages of threads about 70's mail trucks, older pu truck on a later 4x4 ch***is and so on.....So the newbie thinks " Hey,I can discuss my 71 Camaro ......

it's 65 and older so where does that leave all the those 65 mustangs. it can still be confusing to a new guy. we just have to be vigilant and report all off-topic stuff. let's not let the hamb change on our watch.

I just read the new number 8 rule. I do not envy you moderators in the least. Someone is gonna say what about this old G***er bug? Or what about etc etc, people always trying to figure out a way to be right just to show the powers that be. =)

Keep up the good work, no way I could do what you guys do!

    Thanks, man...

As for Algon's Bug and others like that, they were posted before we had the possibility to post them on the Dogfight Forum.

They were too cool to get rid of at the time, even if they were not exactly On Topic.

And now they are grandfathered in.

But, as confusing as it might be to Users who do not familiarize themselves with the Site,
The fact that these Threads exist on the HAMB has nothing to do with O/T stuff that gets Posted right now.

Wow. That rule keeps out one of the biggest threads on here. The Altered Wheelbase picture thread.

The Altered Wheel base cars are grandfathered in - unless of course Ryan makes changes.

    Must have...

Too bad, I was enjoying it too. ( I know that car in the pic from one of the Staniforth books )

What made it Off Topic is the modern Japanese motorcycle engine.

Hopefully it will get reposted on the Dogfight Forum.

And this is why I see every additional rule that gets written down as a bit of a defeat.

We lose the flexibility to have cool stuff like that, because of the people that post stuff that is Off Topic and make additional rules necessary.

I see this as a win for them, not for us.

( us being the HAMBers that do not try to turn the HAMB into something it isn't...)

As long as the model did not see any major changes then the vehicle could be over the age limit but still accepted right?

What flies and what doesn't has become defined by the Core HAMB Members, that post here.

And that's why its so difficult to write it down as a hard set of rules.

There are many exceptions to the rule, and as soon as you write it down, you'll lose some of that.

But at a certain point you have to...

But the post was rectified by the poster before it was locked. From there on forward it was just about the car, and there was nothing wrong with the car.

    Cant you just unlock it?

No, but you could send a P/M to Ryan or Kevin politely requesting to give it another look, and see if it could be re-opened.

From what I remember (Ive barely been here over 2 years so I consider myself a newbie) when the rule was 64 and back, that if a car was around in 63 or 64, that if the body style lasted till '65 or later it was OK.

IE, a 65 Riviera or Thunderbird was OK, a 65 Impala was OT. Ditto a couple of pickups IIRC.
