Features My New Toy 1930 Modal A Pickup

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by hd1084, Jul 4, 2013.

  1. I just sold my pro street Nova and purchased this 1930 Model A Pickup
equiped with a 383 Stroker. I plan on changing out the wheels and tires to a more vintage look. Any thoughts and ideas appricated.

Nice truck. I've always had a soft spot for A-bone pickups. Looks like it's nicely put together, but the look is a bit dated for my tastes (velour interior and the wood bedsides). Make it your own and keep what you like and change what you don't! Enjoy!

  3. Congratulations, with more appropriate wheels and tires it will fit in nicely.

A dropped headlight bar and remove the step plates would be a step in the right direction. HRP

It's begging for black tuck n roll (or white). Maybe a 32 dash some day too, huh? Nice truck. No end to what you want to do with it. I'm sure 'Tommy' approves, but sadly he's no longer with us:

The cowl lights and head lights appear to be 28 29. you may want to consider replacing with the 30 31 style. Pretty nice truck otherwise.

  12. Good eye Harry,,I totally missed that. HRP

  13. Your truck looks great! Looks like a 70's era build? For a more traditional look, especially on a truck, you can't beat steelies, with or without beauty rings. I think some sort of tan colour for the rims with a tan leather or tan vinyl tuck & roll interior (instead of black) would really change the looks of your pickup!
Ask the guys here on the H.A.M.B. to photoshop it!

  14. Not sure if I will make it to Norwin Cruise this week but will be there several times for sure during the summer. I'm picking it up tomorrow night and want to do some work to it to get ready for Columbus next weekend.

  15. Thanks everyone for all the great ideas. As soon as I get it home tomorrow I will be removing those UGLY bumpers and going with the NO bumper look that I like. Also will remove the step plates & street rod emblems. A droped headlight bar and 30-31 lights will be in the near future.
The interior change will have to wait for next year unless I hit the lottery.
Thanks again for all the great ideas and compliments.

  16. Nice truck, with great potential.
Sounds like you're on the right path to making it yours.
BTW, you will need to bury the streetrod emblem with a shovel,
    then bury the shovel.
Look forward to seeing what you do with it

  17. Maybe some finned valve covers. Black plug wires ... de-billet the engine some. Always loved those trucks.

Nice, throw some steelies on it. They don't age. You can drop your own headlight bar. I just posted a tech thread the other day. It's easy.

  19. Actually thinking of the old style Edelbrock finned aluminum covers.
I just finished up with an order to Speedway Motors for a dropped headlight bar kit & 7" Dietz headlights.

Relax everyone, the streetrod emblems will be 1st to GO !!!!

Thanks again for all your comments and ideas weather I use them or not.

I second Retrosteel. My '31 came with dreadful snowflake type Trans Am wheels. Bought Vintiques, had them powdercoated "sandstone" color and added '40 stainless caps. Changed the whole truck. You might think about a tonneau cover if you are looking for an older hot rod look. When I was a kid in the 50s, lots of early pickups had tonneau covers.

Really nice truck, and can be 're-modeled' with out a lot of effort & expense (minus interior). Stance looks pretty good, which is part of the biggest visual impact factor, wheels, tires, stance! Sounds like you have a great plan laid out. Congrats & good luck!

  23. Well just after ordering a dropped headlight bar from Speedway I find out it will not work with my 32 grille. RATZ... One would think they would say that in the ad because many 30-31s are using a 32 grille.
Worst part is I can't find ANYONE that is making or selling one.

    Any help would be appricated...

I didn't know that either. I know there are tech articles here on the hamb that instruct you how to modify the one you have. You need to do a search. I also would consider the 30 31 commercial style head light buckets. They aren't stainless and you paint them body color. You can put halogen bulbs in them pretty easily too.

  28. I just found and ordered a dropped headlight bar on ebay.
It is made for 30-31 modal a with a 32 grille.
Gearhead Enterprises in Hudson, Iowa has them for $275.00 & free shipping. Can't wait to install it. Should change the looks for the better.
