I bought a few license plates over the weekend for our cars. I bought this plate for my wifes 53 Olds. Does anyone know what these extra tags are on the top left?
They were issued/made by the Disabled American Verterans (DAV) and were sent out to tag holders fpr a donation. I don't remember if they sent them and then expected a donation or you had to send a donation first. Good find
that's really cool. you see the little tags by themselves but I have never seen the tags along with the plates that went to them. they had them in California as well.
Nice! Thanks guys. Got them all for $20 and the plate is clear to use! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
We used to get the little tags from the War Amps (WW2 veteran amputee charitable organization). They would send out letters with the tags matching your license plates. You were supposed to send a donation in the reply envelope they supplied. Then, put the tag on your key chain. If you lose your keys the finder is supposed to drop them in a mail box. The Post Office forwards them to the War Amps and they mail them back to you. Look on the back of the tag, it should say something like "if you find these keys drop them in any mail box" or words to that effect. The last time I got one of their letters was about 10 years ago. They no longer call the organization War Amps, now it has to do with helping crippled children.
I've collected license plates (had over 3000 at one time) for about 40-years and have only found one with the DAV keychain tags. Nice find !!
They sent them to you and hoped for a donation. They (or another organization) also sent tags to radio amateurs with their call letters. Similar to organizations today that send you envelope return address stickers......
I wonder, if you didn't pay the donation and lost your keys if they would hold them for ransom? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
