3M N95 #8214 disposable filters are designed to deal with stainless steel fumes from welding. May also be good choice for primer fumes, but check it first. The LWS carries them.
Neti pot with boiled water (to kill off any weird micro-org's...).... I always dissolve some sea salt while hot, then let cool to lukewarm before using. This is good for keeping a lot of sickness at bay. The other thing to flush/detox is the colon... but that's another story for another day. Seriously, most illnesses of almost any type are supposed to originate in the nasals and the colon. Detoxing/cleansing techniques help the body move out all the unhealthy stuff that gets into the body through the mouth, nose, skin, etc. That goes for all sorts of things, including nasty chemicals and heavy metals.
FYI for everyone talking about Galvanic Flu..... Thought I would chime in. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal_fume_fever Cheers, SN
Trace amounts of Zinc are a necessary nutrient, however, it never, ever belongs aerosolized as Zinc Oxide, and in your lungs. Respirator, always, no excuses, unless you are indeed trying to commit suicide, and if you are, don't. http://www.osha.gov/doc/outreachtraining/htmlfiles/weldhlth.html
When I was a welder full time that's what I learned, and it always seemed to work for me. The difference was that galvanized fumes always made me sick to my stomach, I never encountered respiratory problems from them. Zinc can be VERY rough on the stomach if you overdue it. I've thrown up off of zinc vitamins before. I know that when you're a smoker zinc is one of the things that is depleted rapidly, so maybe that's why it never bothered me; the fumes were just replacing the zinc that my smokes robbed from me....
