  2. Thank you kein! I have never been in a war, so I can only guess what it must be like.
That being said, I do enjoy a fireworks display, not for the oohs and aahs, but to observe and remember the horrors of war and the friends that I've lost because of it.
I was one of the lucky ones who didn't have to take a senior class trip to the jungle, I had several friends that did and didn't come back. God speed Stu, Larry, Ron!
I also think of the 56 who stepped up and signed on the dotted line for a new country, knowing that they might very well hang for it. (none did) but most lost everything they owned and/or cherished. How many would do that in this country today?

  3. We usually cook out and blow up stuff but today its raining like a tropical storm, off and on so I did some Barbeque in a crock pot and will probably do some work in the garage.

I was going to say something profound about this holiday but inevitably someone would think it political and cause drama.
    So God bless America.

The temp was around 75 this morning, so I spot cleaned my T Bucket and went for a drive to no where. My favorite destination. I'm debating going to see the fireworks. They just don't thrill me anymore.

A friend had a BBQ last night with lots of beverages, we'll probably just gather at his place again today for more of the same. I don't drink, but it's still cool to sit, eat and talk cars.

    Have a great 4th, everyone.

Keep alert, Kein. God bless you and the guys around you.
My grandson Nick just got home after a 4 year hitch, USMC. They came under heavy attack just a week before he got out, insurgents blew the Deuce-and-a-half out from under...
They called coordinates, and the insurgents were 'dispatched'.

Wife and I hoisted Old Glory, did some lawn mowing this A.M., (these are 108 degree days for 2 week heatwave) We'll barbeque Tri-Tip this afternoon...Yes, and Coleslaw, and corn on the cob.
Too hot to weld, missed the parade, just thankful ALL our civil rights aren't gone yet.

Thanks for posting this ! I'm "celebrating" by working on the HOF Legends Website, editing some new Interviews, and, getting ready for Salina in a few weeks.

But that's the All-American Way...the freedom to do what we need to do, when we need to do it, in our support of others, in a Country that let's us have that Freedom !

    God Bless America !

We celebrated Independence day last night seeing we are always a day ahead of you Yanks LOL. Went on a great run along Aucklands waterfront and oogled at all the neat cars out on the run - some new and some old with a whole pile of friends and aquaintances. Ate American Hotdogs and drank half cold coffee and had a good time reinvigorating my enthusiasm. Old cars, new Camaro's and the whole yard inbetween - most of them would fit into the HAMB theme plus some good muscle cars. I was glad the weather held for the middle of winter with no rain, cool temperatures and little wind

If you were sitting off the coast of Viet Nam in 1968 I may have spotted for you when I was flying as a scout observer with A troup 1/9 Cav. Those guns were hell for accurate if you gave them the right coordinates.

Folks, take a minute during your celebrations, Libations, grilling and cruising to remember Kein and his fellow troops.

My day started at three as I had to go to work from 04:45 until 11. I put my flag out on the post and headed off to work to send folks off to far flung places.
It's mow the lawn, set out the plastic pool for the lab and then off to my son's place for a barbecue, brew and family gathering and maybe fire off my black powder canon.

I'm at work (as usual), the wife and daughter are at her folks, so I know I'll have some good leftovers when I get home. This was my late son's favorite holiday (well, this and Christmas.) After he turned 18, a week or two before entailed a road trip to New Hampshire for fireworks. My wife and daughter want to light off a couple of Roman candles at the cemetary for him on their way home. I hope they don't set the grass on fire.

Can you still fire that cannon? If I celebrate the 4th today the way we did when I was 12, by shooting guns, setting off fireworks or firing the cannon that my grandfather had, I'd be arrested.

That Black Powder Cannon is Great !!! I usually fire two shells through my Dad's Old 12-Gauge Shot Gun.
The shotgun was brought back from Belgium when Dad returned home from Germany at the end of World War II. He was a Sgt. in the US Army, 20th Armored Division
Thanks for all the Men who have served this Great Country........... Jeff

Well, I worked in my Son's garage most of the day(electrical work).
It rained most of the day anyways.
Our Town had the band Chicago in concert before the fireworks at the High school down the street. Looked like it could still rain so stayed home and listened from the backyard, they still sound good!
As always I thank the Lord that we live in the finest Country in the World!

Same here, in city limits, but the cops were a little laid back this year. Still no guns though.
