Are the 700R and 700R4 the same ? I just bought a project with a rebuilt 700R, the seller told me I needed to fab a bracket for the lock out....
I have a 1992 4L60 (700R4) in my coupe.... I have the TV cable set up correctly (no problem, search the internet) but I do not have the lock-up set up (yet).... you don't have to on the later 700R4 transmissions... I do get the OD in fourth, but not the lock-up.... they will not burn up, you just will not get the minor mileage gain ....... It is a good OD transmission, learn about it and use it.
An 88-89 Suburban 700R4 is the best of both worlds - overdrive trans but it runs a cable speedometer, so you can put it in just about anything you want. I beat the absolute hell out of an '89 and it was still going right to the day I yanked the motor and trans for something else. Half ton truck, stuck an aux cooler on it, and towed at various times a 6000-lb 1-ton Suburban, a car trailer with a two-ton car that turned out to be full of another 1000-1500 lbs of parts (starters, generators, etc.).
the 700 is a decent od trans.have a few buddies who run them in some high hp cars and they can smoke them tires! and still get good gas mileage. but im quess im old .I don't like any od trans.never have.no real reason either.ill stick to my 350 and 400s.
