hello, I'm new to this forum, my name is Bruno, I am a Spanish boy who loves cars and I like amercan cars and buy a mercury both 51 and brought to Spain, and started to rebuild my engine and now rebuild is the time the car engine.
The engine is a 255ci flathead v8 merc is the original engine of the car, now is when I appear in case.
I hope you can help me configure my request,
The engine is original and it works well I just tweak some things to improve performance,
n 1 choice carburetor problem: not whether to choose the holley 390cff or 500cff Edelbrock manual choke, which of the two recomendedd me I prefer the Edelbrock but I think it works well with my stock motor

n2 problem I choose a new radiator for my car and not that work well with my ch***is.

Problem 3 I want to change the cylinder heads by Edelbrock for a 49-53 merc but the compression ratio of 8:1:1 in Spain increases the octane of gasoline is 95oct you think that increasing the compression run any risk of damaging the engine, which type of boards choose to change or copper graphite.

greetings and thanks for everything I hope you can help and guide me as from Spain everything is very difficult for me, thanks thanks thanks, I'm writing a list of selected components and speedway motors have if you can help me.

jajajaj, you are very funny, the truth is that Spanish women are beautiful, jajaj, is a good country, theirs also has something to love, I live near Madrid.
I need your help, I need to know if buying the carburetor or Holley 390cff or Edelbrock 500cff, my engine is a 255ci flathead stock, perhaps the Edelbrock is too big for my engine problems and I do not? That I recommend, many thank you very much to all for your help, without you this would be impossible for me.

I ***ume that you wish to run a 4bbl carburetor? Mostly I have seen either Edelbrock or Offenhauser 4 bbl intakes, and I think that the recommended carburetor would be the 390 cfm Holley.........

Maybe someone else has been running a 4 bbl who can comment?

Good luck with that flathead........they have *soul*.......

  9. I don't know a whole lot about flat heads .. but the carbs you list should work. Both are good brands... Holley probably would be my first choice as they are more common. You might even be able to send the Holley company a question about what they would recommend.

The 8:1 compression is not high,,, my 350 chevy is only about 8.5:1 and runs great on 87 octane.

You might want to do some internet searching. There are companys that specialize in flat heads.. one is Detroit Flat heads...

Good luck .. it take s a lot of time and patience to build a car but in the long run it's worth it..

thanks , for your request roger and cunzbrucie,I finally buy a holley carburator four barrel.
but I still doubt the topic of compression ratio, in Spain the octane of gasoline is 95 oc if to this we add the increase to 8:1 compression will not be much pressure for the engine?, you may not understand this But you can explain it to me. thanks

hola, amigo. use the holley carb. it actually is a little big for a flathead, but it's close enough. use the edelbrock if you supercharge. as far as the aluminum heads, when that was a new engine, 70 or 80 octane petrol was about all there was unless you went to an airport and bought aviation gas, so they should be fine. buena suerte.
