hello, I'm new to this forum, my name is Bruno, I am a Spanish boy who loves cars and I like amercan cars and buy a mercury both 51 and brought to Spain, and started to rebuild my engine and now rebuild is the time the car engine. The engine is a 255ci flathead v8 merc is the original engine of the car, now is when I appear in case. I hope you can help me configure my request, The engine is original and it works well I just tweak some things to improve performance, n 1 choice carburetor problem: not whether to choose the holley 390cff or 500cff Edelbrock manual choke, which of the two recomendedd me I prefer the Edelbrock but I think it works well with my stock motor n2 problem I choose a new radiator for my car and not that work well with my ch***is. Problem 3 I want to change the cylinder heads by Edelbrock for a 49-53 merc but the compression ratio of 8:1:1 in Spain increases the octane of gasoline is 95oct you think that increasing the compression run any risk of damaging the engine, which type of boards choose to change or copper graphite. greetings and thanks for everything I hope you can help and guide me as from Spain everything is very difficult for me, thanks thanks thanks, I'm writing a list of selected components and speedway motors have if you can help me. 1 91013600 1937-1953 FLATHEAD V8 HEADER FLANGE GASKETS $5.99 $5.99 1 91013606 ECONOMY FLATHEAD V8 HEADERS $129.99 $129.99 1 3251115 1949-53 Ford and Mercury Edelbrock Finned Heads $595.99 $595.99 1 91015880 1949-53 COPPER BIG BORE GASKET SET $109.99 $109.99 1 54731199 MSD 8.5 mm Super Conductor Plug Wire Set $90.99 $90.99 1 91044085 CERAMIC POWERKOTE - 3 OZ. $29.99 $29.99 1 91010125 Intake Acorn Nut Cover Set, 9/16" $14.99 $14.99 2 91010115 Cylinder Head Acorn Nut Cover Set, 11/16 $24.99 $49.98 1 91303910 STAINLESS STEEL BOLT KIT FOR EDELBROCK INTAKES $24.99 $24.99 1 91013397-CHR LAKE EXHAUST PIPES, 70" OVERALL LENGTH $149.99 $149.99 FINISH: Chr 4 91013399 LAKE PIPE MOUNTING BRACKET, CHROME $5.99 $23.96 2 91061011 7" Replacement Headlights, Tri-Bar $69.99 $139.98 3 91064196 Replacement Bulb - H4 - 6 Volt $19.99 $59.97 1 91064601 Pigtail Headlight Connector $6.99 $6.99 1 9112100 HEADLIGHT FRENCHING KIT $319.99 $319.99 1 91017449 CHROME OIL FILL TUBE KIT $15.99 $15.99 1 91015310-49 HEAD NUT/STUD KIT Backordered $99.99 $99.99 YEAR: 49 1 91612002 1949-1953 STAINLESS STEEL WIRE LOOM $49.99 $49.99 1 7209314 UNIVERSAL BOLT-THROUGH CUSHION KIT $19.99 $19.99 1 4258007 Holley 390 CFM Carburetor $439.99 $439.99 1 6502418 THROTTLE CABLE BRACKET $14.99 $14.99 1 6502428 THROTTLE & AUTOTRANS KICKDOWN $17.99 $17.99 1 1351935B Flathead Carburetor Adapter $19.99 $19.99 1 7204131 THROTTLE CABLE, 96" $18.99 $18.99 1 6174506 Chrome Fuel Filter, 5/16" $8.99 $8.99 1 6174512 Chrome Fuel Filter, 3/8" $8.99 $8.99 1 3251107 1949-1953 Edelbrock Single 4 Barrel Intake $369.99 $369.99 1 54597080 REPLACEMENT PAPER FILTER ELEMENT, 14" X 3" $6.99 $6.99 1 54565945 CHROME PLATED STEEL $56.99 $56.99 1 92517480 POLISHED ALUMINUM OIL FILTER COVER, FINNED $19.99 $19.99 2 282159 Comp Cams Engine Break-In Oil Additive $12.99 $25.98 5 9104111 Champion XP 20W-50 Racing Oil $7.99 $39.95
Welcome from Texas...I see a few things on you proposed order from Speedway that I dont see that you need......like a 96" throtle cable????? for one
Welcome from Chicago as well. Can't help here but the wife and I were in Madrid & Barcelona about 5 years ago and you have one really nice country not to mention probably the hottest looking woman around as well. My ribs are still sore from my wifes elbow poking me in them everytime a beautiful woman p***ed by.
jajajaj, you are very funny, the truth is that Spanish women are beautiful, jajaj, is a good country, theirs also has something to love, I live near Madrid. I need your help, I need to know if buying the carburetor or Holley 390cff or Edelbrock 500cff, my engine is a 255ci flathead stock, perhaps the Edelbrock is too big for my engine problems and I do not? That I recommend, many thank you very much to all for your help, without you this would be impossible for me.
I ***ume that you wish to run a 4bbl carburetor? Mostly I have seen either Edelbrock or Offenhauser 4 bbl intakes, and I think that the recommended carburetor would be the 390 cfm Holley......... Maybe someone else has been running a 4 bbl who can comment? Good luck with that flathead........they have *soul*....... CB
I don't know a whole lot about flat heads .. but the carbs you list should work. Both are good brands... Holley probably would be my first choice as they are more common. You might even be able to send the Holley company a question about what they would recommend. The 8:1 compression is not high,,, my 350 chevy is only about 8.5:1 and runs great on 87 octane. You might want to do some internet searching. There are companys that specialize in flat heads.. one is Detroit Flat heads... Good luck .. it take s a lot of time and patience to build a car but in the long run it's worth it..
thanks , for your request roger and cunzbrucie,I finally buy a holley carburator four barrel. but I still doubt the topic of compression ratio, in Spain the octane of gasoline is 95 oc if to this we add the increase to 8:1 compression will not be much pressure for the engine?, you may not understand this But you can explain it to me. thanks
Call Summit. Se habla espanol. Or email them, it might be helpful to ask questions in your native language. Bienvenidos a H.A.M.B.!
thanks reanimator , my email is bruneka44@hotmail.com. thakns for all gracias por todo. me podrias decir donde puedo pedir el radiador para mi mercury 51
hola, amigo. use the holley carb. it actually is a little big for a flathead, but it's close enough. use the edelbrock if you supercharge. as far as the aluminum heads, when that was a new engine, 70 or 80 octane petrol was about all there was unless you went to an airport and bought aviation gas, so they should be fine. buena suerte.
You guys do know that this thread is 3 1/2 yrs. old, right? Hopefully he's figured out a few of these issues and is blasting around Spain in his hot rod...............................Don.
