I'm with Roger on this one. Buyer beware, especially on ebay.

Has this post served it's purpose yet?

    Was there a purpose?

Is there anyone left who deosn't know there are crooks on Ebay?

Do we need a support group?

And I swear I have talked at length with 40studedude, in person, and have never found him to be any more ignorant, arrogant, or *****ish than myself.

Of course, that would be hard to do....:D

    Dear Mr. Rash,

Thank you for supporting my dignity, honor or *****ishness...(you, too, flt-blk)...however, let me say when I first answered the thread, there was no "explanation" of the facts from Rocket303…if you'll please direct your attention to the small notice at the bottom of the first entry it sez: “Last edited by ROCKET303 : Today at 11:06 AM. Reason: i wasn't done!” …now then, sometimes I cannot resist getting a funny “jab” in…so I did…thinking my answer would be humorous…but when I checked it again, there was more of an explanation there then when I posted my part of the thread…and for this, seeing as how I’m a bigger man than most, I sincerely apologize to Rocket303.

Needless to say, my post was taken completely out of context by the majority of the “posters”…and to those of you that think I’m ignorant, arrogant and a *****, I stick my tongue out at you and say “Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrpppp.” You’ll either get over it or die angry…

I think this will be my last post on this very amusing e-bay thread…I’m hoping everyone has learned something about e-bay…

Now back to your regularly scheduled HAMB!

I would be happy to do the same, if you're looking at a car in NE Wis for sale and you want me to check it out for you, let me know and I'll take a look and send you some good pictures.

I buy and sell TONS of **** on Ebay and I almost always have a positive experience. I see misrepresented or too-vague listings on there all the time and I just keep walking. Check the feedback, ask questions, read the description carefully. Scammers are easy to spot.

True about Paypal. I once bought a seat with Paypal, not even on Ebay, and after not recieving it, Paypal got me 100% of my money back. Paypal is good.

    No doubt!!
Dirty, myself, Big chief, mad57olds, kustomolds, Tag Man and Ford Freak are ALL within 20 minutes of Brockport..
I even rent a shop in Brockport..

It ****S this happened..Unfortunatly, i've never heard of this guy ..
this should be a good lesson for all of us.
If there is a car we're intersted in, drop a note on here to see if someone may be close enough to check it out before you shell out your cash.
Maybe take some pics too so you can see certain area's that would normally be hidden for an add.

The FrenZ was looking at a shoebox that was around here, and he asked me to check it out for him...i did, and he decided to p*** on the car..
I was glad i could help out, he's in Germany, and he would have been out some serious cash in buying it, then paying to have it shipped...

I know anyone of the guy's i mentioned above would do the same for anyone..

I REALLY hope thing's work out for ya man...

  12. I sell cars on eBay too, but if it's a POS I say so right in the listing. If I can I show pictures of everything that's bad and whatever is good, under, over the car. But I also rarely sell drivable cars, usually there is no question it's a piece of junk. The '55 Chevy I have listed right now is bent in the middle with a busted frame, for instance. Parts only, unless a guy was desperate enough for a hardtop to make one out of a sedan.

I ask people outright if they can come look at a car. I had one guy who lived close turn down a car for a ****ty frame, not going to have that happen again. Don't know why he didn't come look at it first.

I've had some successful sales, I sold a $100 '66 Impala SS coupe with no motor for $750 this summer - owned it all of a week. I like those flips.

But people on eBay are goofy. The less perfect the car, the more idiots want you to part it out. They want to give you pennies for the best parts and leave you with an unsellable piece of junk. It's a game to har*** people and tell them their vehicle is a piece of **** no one will ever bid on to try to get them to give up and part it out - and those ***holes are the last people I want to help by taking so much as a rust flake off the rocker panel for. They can get off their own *** and go look for parts and parts cars.

Just as an example, I have a '40 Buick Roadmaster. Looks like ****, no paint, but outside of that the only difference between it and the '50 Chevy I am working on now is it sat outdoors and the motor's stuck. I see guys selling the same thing for $2000 without a motor, but they tell me this one isn't worth $500 and only good for parts. I've been under it - the pans are near perfect, the gas tank is good, where there is bondo on it peels off to solid metal - the body is actually in better shape than the Chevy. I'm having a guy paint it, just to stop the rust, I may throw it on for fun then and see what people say. I saw a '40 Super at a show this summer and it looks like it was worse to start with, you could see all the filler in it. (I keep wondering if I could use a '56 Buick bell and put a 322 on the stock trans in there, or go to a 57-64 style and run a 401).

Getting so I'd rather sell here, though, I make deals and have better luck - on eBay 1500 hits doesn't mean squat if no one buys. Unless it's a 1-of-500 ragtop of some sort, it's getting so it's not worth listing.

  13. That's why this place is great, were all over the place. just ask for some help looking at the car before you bid. just send some food, parts or $$$ their way, i was looking at a car on epay and Curly was kind enough to look (and take pics) for me. good thing the car was kinda ****ty..............you gotta love the hamb...........

I am very sorry to hear that you got burned. I have bought and sold a few vehicles on Ebay. Luckily they have all been square deals. I do not know if it has been mentioned because I only read a limited number of the replies but I recommend using an escrow service when making large purchases over great distances. A lot of the time the seller will split the cost with you but even if they don't you can save a lot of heartache by paying for it yourself. If a seller will not agree to the escrow service then avoid them because that means thay do not have much pride in the deal that they are offering. A good seller wants the buyer to be happy.

    An eBay story.

About 6 or 7 years ago, I got the hankering for a '51 Chevy. I saved up about $3500 and decided I'd just find a nice project. I ended up finding one on eBay located just a few miles north of OKC... Perfect!

The description (the pictures were worthless) stated the car was old and in pretty rough shape, but it ran. A lady was selling the car after her husband died and wasn't real sure how to describe it. After speaking with her on the phone, she agreed to let me out of the auction if I didn't like what I saw when I got there. I continued bidding and won the auction for $2600.

I showed up on a Sunday after watching Oklahoma beat the hell out of Texas the day before. I was in a pretty good mood for sure... But I about fell over when I saw the car.

It was in PERFECT condition. All original and not a blemish to be found other than a few thin spots in the paint. I mean this car was AMAZING. You could eat off the valve cover. The interior looked BRAND NEW. The stainless and chrome were bright and like nos. I couldn't believe it. The odometer read 32,000 miles and to this day I believe them to be original. It was that nice.

This car was worth $10k easy and I just couldn't take advantage of a lady that just lost her husband. I explained the situation to her and let her know that it was out of my price range but that I would be happy to help her sell it on my website or eBay. She refused and asked for her $2600. I gave her $3500 and drove it home.

I had the car for about 18 months and used it as my daily driver. Course, I sold it... Wish I never would have...

I recently brought a 50 shoebox coupe off ebay. Its funny purely because thats the one place I had always said I wouldnt buy from because of all the dodgy stories ive heard. But a mate at work told me about this 'no rust' car and so I looked and after phoning the owner bid and won it. I guess if I had have tried I could have soughted someone to check it out but most people I contacted wanted between 5-800 dollars just to look at it which was a third of the price of the car.

Anyway....I shipped this car all the way to New Zealand only to find its still got quite abit of rust and not at all bondo free:confused: Its also missing parts like the trim or body moulding of the rear quarter which is impossible to get this end of the world. But the good news is im learning a heap of new skills fixing this thing and ive got the car ive always wanted sitting in my garage:D

Well, it is too bad people have to be dishonest but why would someone from the land of well preserved old cars have one shipped all the way across the country from a rust bucket state?

  18. Sorry you got ripped off. Hope you can get things resolved or sell it and at least get your money back.

As far as That Roger Jetter guy here on the HAMB.....

Although I'm sure he can handle his own drama..I still want to concur with 40studeDude in the below quote.
Initially the thread was created with no explanation. I seen it.
It was later added. Initially his reply didn't sound out of hand for the info given.
He may be a ignorant ***** but the reply doesnt prove it .:D:D:D

    Ebay story's-

I bought a banjo rear off of a guy here in my state. I went to get on the day we agreed and my van blew a tire and by the time i could make it to were he lived it was too late. He called me the next day madder than hell, and i explained to him what had happened and told him i would send him the money that day. HE called me and said he got the money. THat was june. I lost his number and couldnt get a hold of him then he called me monday and said he still had it and would gladly hold it as long as i needed him too. Im goin to get it saturday. This was a good ebay experience.

The only sorta bad experience i had was when i was the seller. I sold a sbc for 160 bucks on ebay. I told the guy i would have it pulled when he got there. Well i didnt. He had to wait about an hour and his wife was bustin his balls so i gave it to him for 120. $0 bucks off just to cover his gas. Then he asked if he could have the intake carb fan ect. I told him yes as long as he needed them. And he said yea i thought they were part of the auction. So i gave them to him. A wek latere he has all of that stuff on ebay piece by piece including the engine. Now i need some of those parts, but oh well i guess this isnt that baad

  21. I agree but unfortunately I too had to learnthe hard way. Bought a '48 Plymouth off ebay from a "gentleman" but I prefer to call him Liar, that was misrepresented. In fact, I'm not even sure if the car the shipper delivered was the one in the pictures.

I will never buy another car I can't see myself or have a trusted third party check out for me.

I sold it at a loss and mailed him a dead carp via the cheapest ( that means SLOWEST) form of mail possible. PHEW!!!

    Fool me once....

I must say I have met Roger(40Studedude), and he was one of the nicest people I have met. As far as him being arrogant, ignorant or what ever, I disagree.
Would you let me, someone you have never met, ride with you in a car on a cruise, meeting me the day before??
I might draw a mental picture of who I think you are by your conversation on the internet, but I would never publish that picture until I met you. Then I might or might not, depending on how you act when we finally meet.

In 100 or more cars I have sold on ebay, I have NEVER done escrow, nor have I ever heard of anybody using it. A couple people have asked about it...until I show them my feedback and tell them that it is a waste of $$. Now if I was buying from somebody with ****py feedback and spending $20,000 on something with poor photos, I would do it.

My worst story was from me on the seller's end. I sold a 1963 2 door hardtop Impala about two years ago. It was a roller, no motor/trans. Well optioned car. Complete A/C setup was there, stick car, power steering...all there, power brakes...all there, tinted gl***, nice interior..complete and uncut, car was VERY rusty. I listed it acurately. Stated clearly in the first line of the auction that it was a good parts car or needed a complete resto. I also stated that the only good sheetmetal was the trunk lid, all the rest was rusty. I had lots of photos. Clear ***le. Car sold for $750, the second high bidder came and looked at the car before auction end, knew his **** and confirmed that it was well worth that. Now the high bidder bid at the last minute, never spoke to me prior. Called ASAP after auction end asking me stupid questions that were clearly answered in the listing. They were in Miami....I am in WI. You all know how much shipping is to FL from the midwest? $1300 later, the guy gets the car shipped to him. Then he starts calling me saying it is not as described and not worth the $2000. Duh, it was NOT worth $2000, it was worth $750 which is what he paid. Says he is going to sue me and such. NO WAY was I going to buy the car back. Never heard from him again.......Not my fault some dumb*** buys a clearly rough car over 1000 miles away. As a seller, I have ZERO control over the idiots bidding on my auctions.

Now I am certainly NOT saying your situation was like that, but it has happened to me a few times. Any seller misrepresenting a car should have to make right and fix the problem.

Well, I couldn't find one out here.......I've heard cars are rusty on the east coast.
but this joker used words like "rust free" when your trust worthy, you think most folks are.....
    It won't happen again........

And I hope know one has misunderstood me. I'm not down on Ebay.
my disgust is with some of the snake oil sellers, on ebay, or auto trader, or in are local papers.....Just be honest. Then the buyer can make an honest decision......if I get stuck with this wagon.......I will list it as the pile of junk that it is........

Did you save all of the messages back and forth?? Get on Ebay and print a copy of the Auction before he has a chance to delete any pictures. You need to cover your *** in any deals like this.

    Good Luck.

I BUY CARS ALL THE TIME FROM EBAY

you just gotta do your homework. i have a 54 bel-air post that i bought from ebay and in mississippi!!!!!! the son was selling it for his dad, they sent me as many pics as they could, dad wasnt doing well so the son was liquidating stuff for dad. i figured "hey it looks clean but will probably have some rust but for 3500 who cares"
as one of my employees pulls in and unloads it from the tow truck it rolls off real nice and i find that its just like Ryans post in this thread...the car was dead on spotless! probably the cleanest unrestored car i had ever owned perfect undamaged original interior, 78k original miles 2nd set of tires i mean ****ing perfect car!
so how did i reward such a find you ask?

i chopped it up 4/6 in the roof, mustang II and an ls1 motor...lol....arent old cars cool!:D :D :D

    That totally ****s.

Ebay just plain ****s ***. They have no responsibility to you or anyone else to resolve any matters. They are just a service, and that service is to list an item and take your money. It stops there.

They should make it known to people they wont back their ****.

    Example:

A couple members stole images from us, and used them on our site. We filed a complaint based on copyright infringment. We were told we would hear something back in 24 hours. It took them 7 days. The auction ended. We had to write nasty emails to the listing owner.

So its buyer beware. ebay is a marketplace where at some point you will be ****ed and without retribution. ebay's only concern is that they get their money.

not as smart-*** as it sounds, but...there are wildly varying versions of what 'rusty' means. if a guy in new york says relatively rust-free, guys in ohio, detroit and chicago might be familiar with the relativity of 'rust-free' he means. 'rusty' texas, new mexico or cali cars would bring tears to the eyes of rust-belt builders. ****, that's why it's called the rust belt.
