Are there fewer old cars for sale nowadays?

  1. Of course, a good percentage of the repro sheetmetal - floors, lower quarters, lower cowls - fit more than one or even all of the 41-48 body styles, not just a Fleetline 2-door fastback.

I will repeat myself once again,,I said" they are not considered to be the MOST popular body style",,,never did I say they are not popular.

Hell maybe in the land of fruits and nuts they ARE the most popular car ever built.

    Damn,,this is ridicules. HRP

the majority of rods around here are seventies-era "Street Rods", 30's cars with modern drivetrains and interiors installed. there's also some pickups (proper pickup trucks, not hack jobs) with major alterations, and past that, outside the HAMB guidelines, lot's of muscle cars and low riders. the few old-school rods that there are, are pretty recent builds. there are a bunch of fifties cars ranging from mild customs to gook wagons loaded with everything JC Whitney sells. our climate on the coast is so ****ty for sheetmetal that cars have to come from inland to be any use at all. and, like some have said above; thanks to Blareit, Jackson and so many others, perceived value and actual value have looooong since parted ways around here. check out any of the local Craigslists for old cars and see what I mean. rusted out, incomplete and wrecked ****boxes going for what USED to buy a decent daily driver ten years ago.
recent spikes in s**** value is ALWAYS bad news for local tin as well. the hoarders in the woods wait for a ten cent jump and clear out the back forty..... of whoever's land they can get to. no ***le needed to sell a "junk car" to a shredder HERE.

That's a point that quite often overlooked.
Then you also have to salvage yards that get taken over by the city/county/whatever government agency and all sent to the crusher with the stroke of a pen, completely indiscriminately. Or the old timers that have loads of old cars that are dying off and their kids have no interest in doing anything other than collecting a check for whatever a s****per will give them.
Then you factor in all the American cars being exported and yeah, the supply chain is definitely dwindling down.

Let me get this straight. You're saying that they are not considered to be the MOST popular body style. We need another car washing thread. What has it come to when a man can't express his opinion with out other people getting their ******* in a twist?

Plenty of old cars can be found.Just have to work to find them. The best deals are not found sitting and looking at a computer screen. They are found by networking and asking around or the ol' drive around looking routine.
So many responses are check craigslist or Hemmings. That aint working too hard,3 million other guys are doing the same thing.Get off the chair and hunt.

I think a lot of people aren't selling until the economy gets better and the prices come back up.

LOTS of cars are for sale, but nobody has play money these days. Same deal with parts and small collector items, HAMB cl***ified ads worke better than "That Auction Site". NO interest in the near NOS Chevy dash that would go in a late 1940's Chevy. Bob

Cash for cars + DMV and CA smog program = Force the use of m*** transit or make foreign countries and US Government LOT of money. Sales Tax, Registration Fees based on value, Tariffs and that giant ****ing sound. Back to Gameboy. Sad isn't it.

    Maybe its our perspective.

    When I was a teenager, a 32 Ford roadster was only 35 years old. I drove a 32 MG J2. I traded that for a 37 MG TA. Then a 62 MGA. Today's equivalent from when I owned those would be a 1978, 1983, and a 2000 model car.

In 1972, a 55 Chevy was only 17 yrs old. Today's 17 yr old car is from 1996!
