A good friend and fellow HAMBr had a bad powder coating job get worse( paint blew off on first drive), so I talked him into letting me ceramic coat the centers. I tint my own colors , so I used a color called antique br*** mixed with stainless steel to try to get a color similar to an old Magnesium wheel. These coatings are chemical resistant and will not chip or peel. Let me know what you think!
That looks REALLY good Kracker!I'm so lazy I would probably be leaning toward getting you to do the entire rim, just so I wouldnt have to spend any time polishing the lip...lol! That colour looks really close to the look of real magnesium when guys treat it with Gibbs.I'm impressed.Nice work!
I will be glad to share the process. I have been coating firearms and archery equipment for about 12 years. There are 4 primary coatings that I use. Three are thermally cured and one is air cured. All are applied by an HVLP touch up gun or air brush. One of my favorites is KG GunKote. The owners of the company are great, and I have had great luck with their product. It requires no catalyst and is very user friendly. I also use a product called Cerakote. It has a catalyst and requires a little more experience to use. The air dry coating that I use is made by Sherwin Williams and is called Polane T. It is an air dry industrial polyurethane enamel that is designed to work well with polymers and plastics. Im actually painting a 77 Bronco using Polane T this week. KG GunKote ( Its what the wheels are sprayed with ) is really my favorite coating for metal that can be cured in an oven. Its super thin, and once cured cannot be removed by gas, acetone, lacquer thinner, or any harsh chemicals. As with any coatings, prep is the key to success. I really like it on intake manifolds too. No fuel stains! I will try to do a video showing the process. I do this for a living, but never feel like I cannot share the process since it is fairly easy and provides an excellent product. Thanks again for the kind words.--Lee
boutlaw, owner of the wheels, has them now and should have them mounted this evening. Ill try to get him to post a pic of them tonight. He has a really nice 65 Mustang that they are going on, so excuse the OT car if he posts them!
what kind of cost would it be to have a set of 17" Torque Thrusts done for the whole wheel or just the centers like that?
PM me if you have any questions about prices please. Ill take care of fellow HAMB members on pricing.
Just did a set of wheels for another HAMB member. Just thought that I would post them here for him to see them before I ship them back.
