Please ignore. My bad! I finally removed the retaining rings and bearings. There is a step that starts just at the edge of the retaining ring that I simply did not see with the ring and bearing in place. The step measures OK for a standard large axle bearing and retainer. I have replaced 9" axle bearings before, but I simply did not remember the step. My brains' hard drive is full and the retrieval system is malfunctioning!! Original Post: The standard large Ford 9" axle bearing is 3.150 OD by 1.531 ID. Both axle bearings out of my 67 Country Squire have the same 3.150 OD but have a smaller ID! The axle diameter for the bearings measures 1.508. I'm not sure what the actual bearing ID should be, but I have had no luck find replacement bearings from either the parts stores or any of the specialty 9" axle manufacturers. The Ford dealers can't look up anything prior to 1980. It looks like one the axle bearings was previously replaced, so the bearings are out there. Can anyone give me a bearing manufacturer name and their part number for this odd size ID?? Thanks for any help!!
Good suggestion, but no numbers on either bearing. However, I will take the bearings to a bearing supplier tomorrow.
Found the bearings. Look at my edit at the top of my original post. Typical mistake, should have removed old bearings first.
Try a 702 brg. any bearing house can check the dimensions. My '70 Ford Torino 9" uses this brg if I remember correctly
