wow, very nice work (and very nice detail/pictures/etc) this oughta move to the tech section in a hurry.
Thanks Don I'll be bothering you alot I'd imagine while I'm trying to do this.Thanks for the response on the other messageboard.Rich
It slays me to see a post this good only get 6 replies and 128 views. Back to the top you go, to complete with lesser threads of higher drama.
Hey, Did, or would the machining of the flywheel, to fit the new input shaft bearing and sholder, require that the flywheel be rebalanced? Killer tech article! Thanx,
Don: I really appreciate your photos on the T-5 to Mopar Flathead as I am attempting the same thing for a 1935 Plymouth. I am very interested in the longer input shaft you used, #R1003. Do you remember how much longer it is over the stock input shaft? I'm trying to do this with an adapter plate so a longer shaft is a must! I will try to attach 2 photos of the adapter. I spoke with Don a while back about this, I copied his setup for my own car. His tranny was from a diesel, so it had a shorter shaft. He swapped to the standard gas motor shaft, which most of have already. My tranny was from an '86 s-10 2.8 v6 gas motor, it had the proper shaft.
I am almost ready to start production of this adapter. My only delay is that I wanted to include a pilot bushing and hardware with the adapter and I'm not quite finished with the pilot bearing/bushing design. Please reply with your email address and I will add you to my T-5 Adapter mailing list. Paul Curtis 19319 Candlelight Roseville, MI 48066 586-296-2488 pjplymouth@netscape.net
It's a hell of a thing when a H.A.M.B. Member tries to make a profit on another H.A.M.B. Brothers idea. Dennis
Wow! I'm really bummed to hear that Don has had to take down his site, tech, and ideas, because someone else is selling his intellectual property. I copied his tech, for my own vehicle, and Don was super helpful, answering questions along the way. thanks Don. kinda makes you stop and think.
IMHO don is shooting himself in the foot. sure somebody may have copied his adapter, but now that he pulled the info, the guy who copied him has a monopoly on the adaptor. i don't know if don is marketing these too? the idea is already ripped off, now you are punishing the honest do it yourselfers. was this a blatant ripoff, or just "ripping off" the concept of putting a t-5 behind a flat 6?
Seems like a blatant ripoff to me. I agree though, the dates and times on here would prove than Don came before the egg. Almost like a homemade copywright.
I posted this so others could learn from what I did. I have nothing to sell! But if someone profits from what I did it pisses me off. I will gladly share my experiences and hope someone can learn from them and expand on them same as I expanded on the ideas the guy who originally shared his install with me. But selling what I did was never considered. This is a hobby to me and not a business!
that's like saying they should of "stoned" C.W. POST for making grape nuts. was their a "patent infringement" if not so what. the idea was made public and someone ran with the idea, get over it. it's not like the guy snuck into your shop and stole the idea.
So if you invented a new kind of machine, and someone fooled you into helping them build one for personal use, then marketed the idea and became a millionare you's shake his hand? Bull. Don did all the leg work and went the extra mile to help this guy, and he turns around and markets them without kicking back to the person responsible. Thats horseshit and not what this site is about. Bad business.
Wow....sorry Don, and I was heavily thinking of using this very conversion piece for my T5 install. -Bob {40P10touringsedan}
I have a 47 dodge truck. I understand the 86 trans from the s10 is the right length but the tailshaft is long and requires some frame mods. The t-5 from the Jeeps are short. Could they be used to duplicate a similar length trans and eliminate the cutting??
