The inside of the box on my 55 ford was painted with aluminum roof coating when I got it, it would gum up any grit of sandpaper almost immediately. I ended up using one (actually three) of the abrasive discs (see below) that look like undercoated shredded wheat.
    Might be worth a try.

thing is about chemical strippers, is to make sure the area's is real clean after you use them, or you'll have issues with whatever coating you apply after...residual chemicals will cause orange peel, rough spots etc...

  9. if you suit up good with some thicker coveralls, earmuffs, safety gl***es and gloves (and a face shield isn't a bad idea,.................................. you can cut the diamond plate with a skill saw and a straight edge (its loud but it can be done real easy) I like to lay the diamond plate on top a sheet of s**** ply so I can cut clear thru the metal

Look for a steel fabricator with a big shear. They will probably order the alum diamond plate metal and shear it to your specs for a few bucks more. I did that with steel diamond plate for my car trailer.

Thanks for your input! Great idea. There is a welder/fabricator who lives on an old junk yard one mile from my house who bids on county jobs. I'm surprized it didn't dawn on me to consider his services. Tomorrow I'm driving the C10 over to his shop for his opinion. Thanks!

I use a table saw to cut aluminum all the time. In cabinet shops they use what is called a panel cutter for cutting sheets of plywood, you could use that as it gives a damn near perfectly square cut.

I would never use pop rivets, instead use polished stainless steel screws/bolts with polished acorn nuts.

OK, not pop rivets , I work in a sheet metal shop , sometime the brain is always on work, use hex head or alan wrench bolts or screws. Point is skin with metal!!!!

Went to Orilley's today and purchased the Dupli-Color BED ARMOR Do-Yourself-Bed Liner Kit (one gal). It's made with Dupont Kevlar. Kit has brush, roller, and tray. One of the reasons for doing this is to coat the top of the bed rails with it too. Also aesthetics and seems easy...paint over all the fender phillips head carraige bolts inside the bed (18), and it has a texture that will hide some of the blemishes. I'm hoping there are no hiccups or surprizes with the process or outcome.

I was gonna suggest the black bed liner but it seems you are already on it. good luck should be nice and that bed will be around for the next 200 years.

    good luck

Jeez. I think I would learn to like the floor paint.

Or, just paint it black. I don't see the point in painting it with liner which has a texture, just because it already has a texture?

Park on it... it will come up real quick unless its the good stuff (not box store ****. that stuff ****s on a garage floor) and then who would use the good stuff on a bed of a truck.
