Thanks every one it means a lot coming from real hambers

To answer some of your questions the grill shell was shortned by my dad back in the day. He did it that way because the rad and grill looked weard in front of crossmember and stuck out past the head lites. The rad is mounted behind the crossmember and the grill shell on top of the crossmember making it shorter to fit the hood. I like the way it looks that way and wanted to perserve the car the way it was built with out making too many changes. The only up grades in the car are the fuel tank and the break system for street purpose and safty.

to answer the fender question "why fenders in the front and not in the rear?" The fenders that were in the back were half fenders and looked stupid they never lined up wright and my new tall tires would not fit under them. so I took them off. I left the front fenders on cause they look cool and they are made out of thunderbird spare tire covers and that is cool.

Proud I am!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just answering the thread from six years ago. Back in the fifties the coupe had a 292 Y block Ford engine with an Isky cam and three carbs, the trans was 46 ford then, with "three on the tree" on a forty Ford steering column.
In the sixties I decided to race NHRA D/Altered. Out came the Y block and in went a 283" bored to 301" small block chevy with a T10 4 speed and 57 chevy rear. I made my own shifter from parts using a straight line "Syncro Loc" Hurst 3 speed floor shifter and a 5/8 wrench welded to a Hurst Handle for reverse. The two handle shifter worked terrific and is still in the car today. The engine now is still a 1957 corvette 283 mounted in the chassis using the 57 Vette crossover motor mount. The 57 engine block has no provision for side block mounts. The heads are original 1957 with staggered valve cover bolts, which adds to the 50's and 60's period for this car.
Actually this car was a hot rod in the forties when it was full fendered and not channeled. Then it had a full race Ford V8 60 flathead under the hood.

To answer the question about ET and MPH. The car was pretty much a handfull to drive, keeping it straight was a challenge that greatly affected the ET. Mile per hour was pretty consistant at 124 mph. The ET's were not so consistant from low 12's to a best of 11.76 et.
That was from 1969 to 1971 that I ran the car at NHRA events. The last time that I ran it was at the 1971 Summernationals at Englishtown where I made it to the semi-final of D/A class before blowing the rear gears. After that race I concentrated on building and racing Top Fuel dragsters in NHRA.
Now my son Kenny is the driving force to keep alive the tradition of "THE FUGITIVE" 1930 model A hot rod. If it were not for Kenny, it would still be sitting in the garage.
